ATLCOMHelper Exception error

I've been trying over the last day to get DS LOA working with no success. The attached image is an example of the error I receive when I try and start the game. That window pops up about 9 times and then the game asks me to put the disc in, even if it's already in the drive.

The weirdest part is that it use to work on this computer (Vista SP2, GeForce 8800GT, 4gigs of ram, 2.6ghz quad core) but know it won't work on this or my laptop (also running vista). Any ideas?

crash on loading character save

Setup

So i tried to install SP3 for my XP3. True to the microsoft standards, the upgrade trashed my windows. I had to reinstall windows and eveything, including dungeon siege. I put in the usual mods for DS, as well as my old character saves from a backup.

Problem

Ran dungeon siege. crashed on loading old character. Tried it again. Same. Rebooted. Tried it again. Same.

Made a new character. saved new character. Exited game. Loaded the just-created character. No problems.

Actual Question

what does this mean besides error?

I've been without DS1/LOA for far too long..
it must be three months already - THREE whole months - aaaargh!!

- I'm going mental here..!! :woot:

still trying to get the best game in the entire universe to work with MS's new OS..
W7 goes on general release later this month, and still there's no sign of a breakthrough

- can anybody help (- help, help!!)

this looks promising, but it's Vista64-bit, whereas I'm running W7(Beta)64-bit at the mo'

Skritpad

Long story short.

I removed all games and modding tools from the computer I work on. Now I have reloaded all things again but cannot get the file associations back for skritpad.

I got the GE-Tools-Compilation.zip from Abstraction as SJR keeps those things very current. But for some reason I cannot get the skritpad102 to open my skrit files.

I open the file and browse to the skritpad executable, have tried "open with", and tried "right-click" and try changing the file extension from unknown to the skritpad executable. Nothing seems to work.

Bone Translator

Got a question for our resident experts. In the character mesh how does the bone translator for weapons/shields figure the ap_trace points? And how many are actually available? Just the two?
