I've been without DS1/LOA for far too long..
it must be three months already - THREE whole months - aaaargh!!

- I'm going mental here..!! :woot:

still trying to get the best game in the entire universe to work with MS's new OS..
W7 goes on general release later this month, and still there's no sign of a breakthrough

- can anybody help (- help, help!!)

this looks promising, but it's Vista64-bit, whereas I'm running W7(Beta)64-bit at the mo'

Try this:

Start -> All Programs -> Dungeon Siege -> DSVideoConfig

Then switch the primary display driver to "Primary Display Driver" make sure you DO NOT select the drive with "TnL" at the end.
Hope this works for you.

Brkopac

The symptoms I had was stuttering/intermittent freezing.

Here's what I had to do:

1) Run the Dungeon Siege Video settings app DSVIDEOCONFIG

For the video card, choose the option that does NOT end in TnL, and save
(Example - I chose my GeForce 8800GT Hardware)

2) Note that the utility writes this change to your DungeonSiege.INI file in your DUNGEON SIEGE folder under MY DOCUMENTS, but it does NOT make the change to the DungeonSiege.INI in your Legonds of Aranna folder! (this fact is why I was still having problems at this point - I was always trying to run DS-LOA)

3) Open the DungeonSiege.ini from the Dungeon Siege folder, and copy the first text line, then use that to replace the first text line in your Legends of Aranna DungeonSiege.INI file. Hopefully that fixes it for you, it's exactly what fixed it for me.

wow that came really close :woot:
the DSLOA game fired up, but went haywire after a few minutes..
the cursor started leaving trails accross the screen and then the screen started flickering
the opening videos didn't play either - you know, the mad-dog start up thing..

- very close to getting it to work, though..!!

would that vista 64-bit fix make a difference..??

DS1 & LOA run in Windows7..!!

- see here for the low-down on tricking the OS into accepting it:

- totally amazing!! :woot:

Good news for all. Thanks for the update. I still like to fire DS up on occasion and when/if I get a new computer this will come in handy.

Hah!
- good to know you are still around, dude..
- how's WoW-land these days..?? :woot:

- I've been away far too long in the Blue Havens..
- glad that the greatest game of all time has finally cracked the W7 64-bit barrier, eh..?

- now to go off around the interweb and sing it's praises to all those who have
- yet to experience it..!!

- tally-ho and a hi-ho Silver..!!

many thanks for all the input on this problem
- you've all been splendid..!!

couldn't have done it alone..

Good news to see that its working now. Now we don't have to worry again until they release Windows 8 (oh dear). Wink

As I just posted over at Siegenetwork for my finally running DS/DSLoA in Windows 7.

Quote:
I have switched my main pc over to 7 and this weekend finally got around to testing DS/DSLoA/Abstraction in it.

The results are surprisingly good. I first just did the full DS/LoA install and fired it up standard. It did give me the same error box about it having compatibility issue but I just pressed the Run Program box and it started right up and did not have any of the severe stuttering issues I had in the pre release version. In fact it ran just like it would have in XP or 98se.

I then moved over all the mod setups I had plus altered the target lines for the no intro and width and height. The normal DS and DSLoA games ran fine in this as well. I installed Abstraction at this point and it ran fine leading me to think that it was good but upon reloading the character I had just played a minute or 2 with I noticed that none of the changes I had done (items, etc...) were there. I thought maybe it was read-only issues as it was copied from another system. But that was not checked. I created a new character to see if that would save and this character did save. However when I then quit and looked at the save folder this character was not there. After a search of my pc by the character name I found it. It was saved to: C:\Users\sjr\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\DSAbstraction\save not the res and user pathway of: C:\Program Files (x86)\DSAbstraction\save that was specified in the target path. I fiddled around some with the target line and copied a save file to the folder the new save went to and no dice for saving new activity. Finally leaving the target line as I started I moved all the saves to the location it created a new character and with everything there and nothing in the actual location of the target line it works just fine with saving changes.

Basically it appears 7 breaks one thing, customized target line for user data as the resource and map changes appear to work fine. If you are using the default install locations everything is good and you won't notice any issues other that the start up message that you can ignore. However any customized games like Abstraction, LoH, and so on that create a new folder for saves you will have to just find where the saves go to and just use that location as it does work just fine if you use it. ^_^

Perhaps that's just if you use something under the Program Files root (a UAC protected directory). Windows probably just takes anything that a user might interact with out of that location (moved to the virtual store). If you specified a path under the %My Documents% root, I think it might work.

What if I accidentally selected the drive with "TnL"?

Alright I've tried 10+ hours of troubleshooting and countless forums for help. I see the only thing I have not tried is to copy the DungeonSiege.ini file and paste it into the DungeonSiegeLOA.ini file. The only problem is there is no LOA file in my documents folder. When I do a search on my entire computer, there is only one .ini file and it is for dungeon siege, not the expansion. Not sure if anyone still checks this, but help is still greatly appreciated.

Hello Randy,

Although I play DS/DSLOA/DSII/and Broken World on a Windows XP computer. I looked about for the .ini file that you where speaking of. I found the following .ini files on my computer.

My Documents\Dungeon Siege\DungeonSiege.ini -- 357 bytes (357 bytes)
My Documents\Dungeon Siege LOA\DungeonSiege.ini -- 358 bytes (358 bytes)
(also the ones for DSII and BW)

As you can see even though the files have the same name they are located in different directories and the file size is one byte different.

Check your computer again to see if there are two ini files of the same name but of different sizes.

Oh you might also want to register on the site that way your posts will not have to be moved by a moderator so all on the site can see it.
