Windows 10 and Dungeon Siege.

Hey, I've been wondering if anyone has played Dungeon Siege 1 or Legends of Aranna on Windows 10. My computer keeps naggin me to upgrade, but I would hate for the game not to work. DS1 not DS2. Smile

I haven't had any problems.
I had some severe performance issues when playing the Ultima 6 siegelet, but that may be the fault of the mod itself or my laptop or something. Overall, seems to work fine.

DS1-LoA combined retail CD, originally installed on Windows XP. That machine died so I had to buy another September 2013, managing to get Windows 7 rather than 8, had to fiddle a bit I think (as advised elsewhere on this site) to get DS1 to work on Windows 7. From that point, the upgrade to Windows 10 was seamless. December 2015. (Seamless as regards Dungeon Siege. I had a bit of work to turn off Windows 10 backup, which would have quickly filled my little USB stick, and turn on Windows-7 style which is still supported. Also Windows 10 seems unwilling to update media - USB sticks, RW DVDs etc - which it hasn't formatted itself.)

While testing some of the legendary mod maps I've run through parts of the old DS1 ones just to remind myself how they are supposed to play out - the whole of Yesterhaven Act I for example, and bits of Utraean Peninsula. That is the vanilla DS1 launch - I've done little or nothing from the LoA launch on Windows 10.

What has made a difference, subsequently, is replacing the last peripheral retained from the old system, my monitor, by a new wider one, but that's another story. Fullscreen (I've never tried in a window) I have to run both DS2 and DS1 at 800x600 resolution because 1024x768 chops off a narrow band down the left of the screen - the character portraits! - while leaving a larger margin black on the right.

i strongly suggest u resist the urge and spam from m$ to upgrade to win10 as win10 is still an unstable, finicky turd as they call it on tech forums these days. it still needs lots of time before it can be called a real os. dont be a beta tester for m$ for free... lol Laughing out loud much less let m$ peep at u for free with their built-in spyware in win10...

Windows 10 also REALLY dislikes being on a computer with no Internet connection

Hi! I'm trying to run Dungeon Siege on Windows 10, and I can't seem to get it to work. Could you tell what you did to get it to work? I would be so grateful. Thanks if you can!

Hi Caitlynd.

You might want to check out this thread , which is located in our DS1/LoA tech support forum. The post referring to updating the system detail.gas was helpful for me. Also take a look at this thread. While it was aimed at Windows 7 users, it could still be helpful.

To make sure we get all the details, please be a bit more specific. Smile

Are you running the original Dungeon Siege 1 or the DS1.exe that is included in the LoA expansion? The original game may need to be patched. Patches can be found HERE. Just to be clear, the DS1 version that came with LoA does *not* need to be patched.

Another resource that might help is this post from Tom's Hardware website.

By not working--

*Do you mean the game refuses to start at all or does it start and then crash? Are you seeing any sort of error message if either of those occurs?

*Do you get some sort of "smart secure" error message? If this is the case you could try trouble shooting the issue with the win10 troubleshooter, which is one of the ways I got the game to work on my computer.

*Are you running the game as the Admin and/or in compatibility mode?

Hmm, these are the questions that came to mind. Perhaps another member may have other suggestions. Just as an fyi, unregistered posts have to wait in an approval queue. Registered users post do not have to wait and may possibly be seen sooner. Just food for thought. Smile
