This mod allows players the opportunity to play Kingdom of Ehb, Utraean Peninsula, Legends of Aranna and Yesterhaven from the original Dungeon Siege in Dungeon Siege 2 and it's expansion, with all the benefits that provides. Think of it as more of a remastered version of the original Dungeon Siege than a mere port to a newer engine.

The mod is based on Killergremal's original work on the Utraean Peninsula, Kingdom of Ehb and Yesterhaven, found at this thread; https://siegetheday.org/?q=node/1330

Elys All*Saves or Elys' Succubus Manager is recommended to play the mod, which most users of this site probably already use. However either use v1 of All*Saves or turn off the seefar option in the launcher as the mod incorporates seefar moods directly in the maps for better balance without the glitches and distortions caused by using a too high a level of seefar in the launcher. Version 1 of Elys All*Saves is distributed in the installer version in original DS2 (v2.2), Broken World (v2.3) and Steam versions.

Yeah, I used the batch, and now it works fine...

.. well, fine, except the result is wierd: DS1 elements are replaced by Bee-like coloured boxes !

The black and yellow boxes means that the game engine can not locate a resource or resources. Since you say it is a DS1 item then that would mean that some file is missing or corrupt. Let me look at something for a few minutes and I will return.

I believe that the above files along with the standard DS2 files are required to play the converted DS1 maps.

Nothing to do... All the files are here, but the bee-boxes are still here whatever I do !

But oddly, the "critters" creatures as dears, dogs, chickens, etc... are visible, and with my native language name (french) !

I have forgot to say that there's no music except for mini-bosses !

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the mod. It's complicated to install simply because of issues to due with copyright.

There will be another release of the mod at some stage (been in hiatus while I've been working on another project) and I'm keen on trying a copy protection check where the mod is released in a simple package that will only install if the user has Dungeon Siege installed on their pc (or checks an original DS1 disk).

That won't be for quite a while so what I would suggest you try is a process of elimination to try to find what resource pack/s aren't being loaded and why.

The first step is to only have KillerGremal's original files installed and the converted DS1 resources using his batch file convertor. These are;
Mod-DS1Content-Alpha10l.ds2res
Mod-DS1Map-Utrea-Alpha10.ds2res
Mod-Erthos-MonsterLevelAdjust-Beta5e.ds2res
Mod-TerrainNodesDS1LoA-Beta3.ds2res

And the converted DS1 files;
Objects_DS1.ds2res
Sound_DS1.ds2res
Voices_DS1.ds2res

You should be able to load the Utraean Peninsula and there should be no 'bee-boxes" to be seen. There won't be any DS1 monsters, etc but this is just testing the base platform to try to determine where the incompatibility is occurring.

Let us know what happens using the above setup.

I have tried Utraean Peninsula with this setup, and the Bee-boxes are still here, only the DS2 elements are here !

Gemeaux333 wrote:

We will solve this. What version of Dungeon Siege 1 and Dungeon Siege 2 are you running as it is possible that there is a missing patch or update for Dungeon Siege 1/LoA if this where true then the converted files would not be correct. Also if Dungeon Siege 2 where not at the most current level there could also be issues. This computer does not have any dungeon siege installed so I can not tell you what the correct version numbers are -- if no one else posts it by tomorrow I will do so

Elf

I use the french version of LOA (version 1.50) which contain the original campaign as well, and french version of Broken World(version 2.30)!

Gemeaux333 wrote:

You have the correct and latest versions of both games so that is not the problem. We will continue to help you find what is not working right.

Are you starting the game using DS2BW All*Saves for Dungeon Siege II:Broken World v2.30?
Link to All*saves http://web.archive.org/web/20120808231601/http://karamail.nerim.net/elys/download/DS2BW_AllSaves_v2.msi or here http://www.siegetheday.org/?q=node/2687 since it is used all the time I decided to upload it to the site here.

If you are not please download the file and install it then try running the map again.

Elf

Of course I do use all*saves for BW, the proove: The saves works with the Kingdom of Eb map...

Secondary, the missing door elements prevent me to pass through them, and I am stuck at the entrance of the Sacred Blood Crypt !

P.s: Is it normal that near the first checkpoint close to the broken bridge and waterfall, there's a useless lever ?

You wouldn,t be seeing something similar to this?

This is what occurs with incorrectly converted DS1 resources. Contrary to popular belief the mod will still run and maps will still load but you'll end up with this.

Posting screenshots is extremely helpful when tracking down problems like this so if your experience is different, please post a screenshot or two. Thanks.

If you can't take screenshots please let us know exactly what DS1 elements aren,t showing. Sounds and doors you've already said but what about monsters, npcs, foliage, barrels, clutter, etc.

Yes, Yes, this is exactly what I get !

But how the hell am I supposed to known if the file conversion have been successfull ?
I mean, I've dragged and dropped DS1 ressource files on Convert_DS1_to_DS2.bat and nothing special seemed to happen...
And then do I really need to rename the files ?

When I see this place, it remind me that Norrick survived much longer in the movie (In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale) than in the game ^^ !

Step One is to run this setup utility and ensure that it's extracted into the Resources folder of your DS2 installation.
http://dungeonsiege2.net/ds2fun/box/Convert_DS1_to_DS2_Setup.exe

I know you said you did this but you should end up with a Convert_DS1_to_DS2.bat file and a "work_files_ds1_to_ds2 folder in your DS2 resources folder.

Step Two is have both the DS2 and DS1 resources folders opened in two separate windows in my computer. Left click and hold on one of the required DS1 resource files (say Objects.dsres) and move the cursor over to the DS2 resources folder (you'll have an image of the file attached to the end of your mouse cursor if you're doing it right) until the Convert_DS1_to_DS2.bat file is highlighted.

Then release the left mouse button to drop the Objects.dsres onto the Convert_DS1_to_DS2.bat file. This will cause a DOS pop-up window to appear with some text and a message saying "Working.....This may take a minute or two"

Then you'll get another message saying "Successfully created" and a prompt to press any key to continue.

At that point you'll have a brand new Objects_DS1.ds2res in your DS2 resources folder. No need to rename anything.

Repeat that process for the other 4 DS1 resource files (the Expansion ones are found in the DSLOA folder) being;

Sound_DS1.ds2res
Voices_DS1.ds2res
Expansion_DS1.ds2res
ExpVoices_DS1.ds2res

Once you have all 5 files converted you will be right to go. Let us know how you go and if you want further clarification (I can put up screenshots if necessary).

Nothing happen, whatever I do I don't get extra file !

UPDATE: I used the compatibility mode and it finally worked !

The bee-boxes have disappeard and sounds works correctly, but I have other problems:

First, I can't move my character freely, I always have to right click on something to make him moving !
And the writting police characters are wierd (the same police as DS1)!:

We are not sure exactly what you mean when you say "police" could you explain this better? Also What version of Windows are you using? this could be important in solving the problems you are having now.
Elf

I use Windows 7 32 bit, this is why I had to use the compatibility mode (win xp sp3) to make the file converter working !

By "police" I mean the way letters/sentences looks, I mean that in DS2 the letters/sentences looks are way more estetic than in DS1, and secondary some names/words are missing, as you can see on these screenshots (it include menus, pets names, etc...)!

Yes, I have heard that Windows 7 has issues. I still use Windows XP SP3 for my game computer. The fact that some menu's are messed up with words missing or not readable could also be related to Windows 7.
I would recommend visiting our IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channel #siegetheday on irc.gamesurge.net:6667. As someone there may have encountered the problem.

oh my... please tell me u didnt watch the movie first before playing the game... cuz the movie was total rubbish and doesnt do the game justice...

heck even playing the game with my auto engage mod makes a better ds movie than uwe boll. this is according to a fellow modder:

on an offhand adepts related joke, i think gemeaux is drumming for a better ds1 to ds2 resources converter... keke~ :P lol~

Did you convert any of the other DS1 files not required by the mod by any chance?

It's almost as though Logic.dsres was converted as well except that would have resulted in the game crashing even before you got to the main menu. The fonts for DS1 is located in that file as it is for DS2 in Logic.ds2res.

How the fonts would have been changed is beyond me as the mod makes no changes to the ui at all. The monster, items and location names would have been in English but should be in DS2 fonts not DS1. The menu should be exactly the same as for DS2.

It's strange that you need compatibility mode for Win7 as I have 64bit Win7 and the batch file convertor worked without any changes.

I'll dig up the disks for DS1 & DS2 and check for the language differences between English and French. However I don't think that would be the issue. Any ideas anyone?

I have solved the problem: I've removed the LOA related files, and all the problem vanished !

Do you want a copy of the french ressources files ?
If you do, which ones and in which format ?

p.s: I've been playing Dungeon Siege back in 2001-2002, before the movie in 2008, but the movie is not so bad, it is worth the 60 millions $, with most of DS1 Characters and places (even from Utraean peninsula) !
According to my uncle, Uwe Boll should have made a better scenario and possibly include the Wesrin Cross (because I've lended him the games manual and showed him the pages with scenario parts from the game, and loved the part talking about the spiders and the Wesrin Cross)!

I agree with you about the movie it was good but there could have been a much better plot and areas like Wesrin cross should have been included. In most cases movies based on video games and video games based on movies always fall short.

Now as to the mod. You said that you removed the LoA related files and things worked. So you removed these files am I correct in this?
DS1_Legends_of_Aranna_Beta_9a.ds2res
Mod-TerrainNodesDS1LoA-Beta3.ds2res
Expansion_DS1.ds2res
ExpVoices_DS1.ds2res

I would think if this is true that Iryan might like a copy of the files in the DSLoA folder. However attaching them to a message here might not work so check your inbox and I will send you my email address so that you can send the files there. As for format the dsres files or you could zip them also.

Elf

Actually, I only removed Expansion_DS1.ds2res and ExpVoices_DS1.ds2res !

Gemeaux333 wrote:

Okay then send me the unconverted Expansion.dsmap and Expvoice.dsres and I will do some testing and pass them on to iryan.

I wonder if you did the same as I did when I first converted the LoA files... I converted Expansion.dsres instead of converting Expansion.dsmap. I think I even told you to send me the dsres instead of the dsmap!! Sorry sometimes I forget what I did Smile

Elf

The files are downloading however very slowly. I will let you know as soon as they have finished downloading. Then I will have a look at them.

Elf

I have the french resource files downloaded so you may delete them from where you put them

Elf

UPDATE
I took the files you sent me Gemeaux333 and converted Expansion.dsmap to French_Expansion_DS1.ds2res and Expvoices.dsres to French_ExpVoices_DS1.ds2res. Then turned off the expansion_ds1.ds2res and expvoices_ds1.ds2res that where installed in my Dungeon Siege Resources Folder (to avoid conflicts)
I played 15 minutes of the Kingdom of Ehb, and the same amount of time Legends of Aranna and Utraean Peninsula with out any errors. The only difference I noted was that your expvoices was about 10 mb larger than the english version. Taking into account the different languages I think this is exceptable because using the converted map file (the french version) and the english version of the exp voices all worked too. SO I am now uploading the files I converted from the files you sent me so that you might try them. I will post the links in this forum for you and anyone else that might wish to look at them.

Okay, I just finish testing Kingdom of ehb and I go to LOA, I've just reached the dark swamp (the part of the game I hate the most due to it's huge surface area, but the mini map will make the thing more simple for sure) !

UPDATE: Just reached Kroth Fortress, have noticed that you can't access some barell, chest, books (misplaced) !

I'm afraid they are quirks of the conversion process. The bounding volumes of objects in DS2 is different to DS1 so some items aren't accessible unless they are manually moved in Siege Editor, which is a painstaking and tedious process. All known instances of misaligned levers have been fixed as well as most chests but many of the other items haven't been and possibily will never be.

Anything major let me know and I'll try to fix it but for these minor misalignements I may never get the time to fix them all.

There are books, barrels, chests and items that fall out of them that are misaligned in the unmodified Dungeon Siege 1, Legends of Aranna, Dungeon Siege 2 and Broken World That Microsoft, Mad Doc Software, and 2KGames never fixed. So some of the misalignments could be do to the misalignments of items from the unmodified games. These little things that are not important to the movement of the game where never corrected by the game developers so I see little point in correcting something that does not prevent you from moving through the game and completing the quests and winning. Yes quests that can not be finished and mis aligned levers that prevent things from working should be fixed. Now this is just my feeling and may not apply to other modders but I have spent years testing mods and making mods and there is no way to test every scenario that is why we ask people to play the alpha and beta versions of our mods and report issues so that we can fix them if and when we have the time and the skill to fix them. Remember we all have lives in the real world. Okay which is the real world again? Insane
