LoA - The Halloween Special Late Late Show

By Charietto and Ghastley

Never finished, like any work of art, but yet complete. This is a complete conversion to a more modern setting based on our favorite horror movies, which gave us a lot of opportunity to re-use the zombies and other undead from the original game. A lot of new content, such as guns, cars and a chainsaw or two.

It requires Legends of Arrana primarily for skrit support, although a few models and such come from there, too.

Quite a challenging game, as you start with no weapons at all, and full of puzzles that you need to solve. There are a few in-jokes that the community at the now-defunct Herena Forge will understand, but many of them are also here and can help out with the more obscure things. This is the version with Dog and Red, but no Lili. Watch this space for more(?)

Great game, I can only get to the castle though and then any door I try to open I get a error code and the game has to shut down, know any way around this?

Pretty darn cool, if it a bit grindy, and even a bit ambiguous at times! The first level got me lost for a few hours trekking back and forth from the mansion, to the swamp, etc, etc, when i realised i overlooked a teeny chest in the woods where i got that sacrificial dagger!

Definitely helped me move forward once I found that.

Also, anyone know how to defeat that huge blob in the cave below the mansions? I mean, you can just run by him but i'm sure there is a way.
I also checked out the gymnasium, and err, well. That's pretty gratuitous, and certainly keeps me intrigued to see if there's a 'birthday suit' equipable "armor" later down the line :^)

I haven't played it in ages, so my memory is fading, but in general, the movies referenced are the clues.

Look up the movie "The Blob" and check what it was vulnerable to. See if you can make one.

The gymnasium was a reason to have showers - for the Psycho connection.

Edit: Once you do get past the Blob, you may get stuck. Last time I played, I was unable to load up the second "round" because at that point you need to be playing a network game (even though you do so solo). That part is broken for me, and won't initialise, perhaps due to a change in the OS.

I can confirm the network portion of the HLLS mod is working 100% for me so far.
Just grinding up to 25 in the New Mexico map.

I'm running Windows7 currently.

Oh and about the blob, so i'll need a fire extinguisher?
I'll see what my character ( lovingly named Derp ) can come up with.

Yes, use that knowledge. There will be more blobs later, but I don't recall if there are more opportunities to make one.

That's really cool and all, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to make this stuff, I've basically been picking up everything I come across, does the item automatically get built when I use the skill spells? Did I miss a guide to making items? Is there another step that I seem to be missing? Or, maybe I just don't have all the necessary ingredients.
And, ack! I tried to go to the Gymnasium but thedoor won't open for me!
EDIT: Oh. Need to get a pass for the door. I seeeee.

I really don't remember if we put a fully-formed fire extinguisher in the game for you to find, or the pieces of one. And if it was the latter, it may have been that it made itself, when you collected all the parts. I'll have to search my files, to see if I have the right clues.

Edit: All I found so far is a reference to "drop everything and cast" as a way players might figure out how to make one. So that tells me there's a spell involved, at least. Charietto did all the scripting, mapping, etc. and I made models and animations, so I don't have the whole story in my archives. I found the model of the final result, only, so I suspect the parts were using vanilla meshes. I do recall that the components would have made a water extinguisher, rather than the more logical CO2 one, but we had to work with what the game offered.

More edit: I found some gas files including the combining spell, and some of it is coming back to me. There's a "devising" spell (but I don't remember how you get it) that combines things. Some have to made in stages, and I think the extinguisher is one, so you may construct an empty one, and then fill it by combining the empty with some more ingredients.

The same spell makes other things, like a flamethrower, so you may have used it once, and thought you were done with it.
