DSI: Ranged Damage per Dex?

Hi all,

I have gotten back into DSI but have alkways been bothered by the fact that DEX does not increase ranged damage, which makes archers seriosuly underpowered in the late game.
Is there a way to change the values and bonuses you get per DEX gained? I checked some of the files using TankViewer but could not find the right gas file yet.

Hopefully this is not hard-coded into the game and thus unchangeable.

I have used n.e.m.o.'s Archer Mod 152f in the past, which is an amulet that increases ranged dam per DEX gained but the tank file is locked and I cannot tweak it.
Also, I would like it to be tweaked using the formula if possible, isntead of it needing to be linked to an item you wear.

If anyone has any idea that would be amazing.

Best,

Loghras

Hi there,
IMHO it makes no sense that DEX should increase damage. Damage (at least in DSLOA) is affected by skill level, not STR/DEX/INT. So there's no inherent difference between melee and ranged, and you probably just need a higher ranged level or a better bow.
Melee level gives a stronger damage bonus than ranged, however, and magic even a little less. Maybe those can be tweaked in formulas.gas?

(In DS1, damage is calculated based on damage vs. armor values alone; also here no inherent difference between melee and ranged.)

About that locked tank: This "feature" is just a nuisance, the tanks aren't actually encrypted or anything. Try with Siege Editor or Tank Viewer, one of them is able to extract "locked" tanks anyway Wink

To me, it does make sense for DEX to increase ranged damage, as Strength does that for melee fighters, Magic level does that for mages, but archers have no way of increasing damage except for getting better bows (I play vanilla DSI, where ranged skill level does NOT increase ranged damage, at least in the character menu). This makes archers heavily underpowered in late game; once you get the best bow available, you are stuck with it with no way to increase damage.

I did try opening the ds.res file with TankViewer2, but get the following message:
Error opening dArcher152ds.res
Reason: Tank is protected

How do you open ds.res files with the Siege Editor? I thought those are just for maps??

Simply choose "convert dsmap to files" or whatever it's called and then select the dsres -> boom you have the dsres in your Bits folder
