Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and DS2

I was able to test the game on a System Running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and it runs very nice. However there are some very important things to note:

At the present time the x64 Edition has a very limited set of Drivers. So verify that your Video Card, Sound Card and other computer sub-assemblies are supported before installing this version of windows!

Here is a post I left on Herena Forge:

Just a word of advise and a bit of a warning to those thinking of upgrading to Windows XP Professional x64 edition.

First if your system has SATA drives make sure that there is a windows xp x64 driver for the motherboard or controller you plan to use. The F6 key and the x32 driver will allow you to get part of the way through the install, but as soon as it tries to use the gui interface poof blue screen of death. The only way to correct this over site is to start over with correct driver.

Second make sure that your video card, sound card and all other devices that you are using in the system have x64 drivers and that they are certified by microsoft. If they do not you will not be able to use them.

Note Belkin's Game Pads if you are using one do not have drivers for the x64 version of windows.

There are a lot of printers that do not have drivers that will work with x64 version of windows, however some server 2003 32bit printer drivers will almost work if you set up the generic text only printer driver

At the present time there is really no advantage to using X64 windows over the 32 bit version, as the faster 64 bit processors, memory controllers and 10Krpm and faster SATA drives work great with the regular windows xp professional.

The links you gave a a little outdated, they talk about release candidate one and two while it is already released some time ago. I also have a link that gives some nice information about Windows XP x64, it also uses a release candidate.. link

In the second link you gave however there was one nice bit, a list with company's that made drivers for windows XP x64. another link, it isn't a complete list but there are a lot of drivers on it..

Windows 64 work with many programs, 16 bit is no longer supported and prog's based on that will no longer work. For drivers, the best way to find them is to go to the support site of the companies who has manufacterd them, that is my experience. Drivers for printers, scanners and others things like camera's are a problem. The same is with some drivers for modems and burn programs. I have one compuetr with xp 64. Yes thru as i told before ds II work without any problem because the drivers in and for 64 are all new and do support dx9 and all new stuff. Even sims 2 is no problem on it. Every day new drivers do appear so it's going on. I have testend MySQL and PHP5 and those 64 bit programs do work as well like DS max 6, 7 and 8. Photoshop gives no problem as well but the 64 bit version of inter explorer do. There is no version of a 64 bit flashplayer 8O . So we can see that with that some games and programs based on flash will give a problem with 64 bit version of windows.

That where a few of my experiences with xp 64. Daily when i work with it, i might encounter new things, if some have any question, let me know.

Oups Now imagine if the world was like that.:I

There are even some demo's of games for 64 bit games. There you can see the difference in world , yexyuring and quality. That is a big difference. I have tried the 64 bit version of ut2004 which i got from some. Later i have seen some more on one of the 64 bit pages only i have lost that one. If i find it i will write the url here.
