Yello All.

Well happened to be in Walmart the other day - which I almost always refuse to shop there for most anything. But I peruse the PCGames section when I do happen by - they have better selections than EBGames here in NS/Canada. So picked up DSII:BW for $9.88 Smile So guess I shall give er a go.

As I noted in a longtime ago post, I had no interest in paying full price for this somewhat screwed rendition of the DS brand.

Site is looking really good these days though. Kudos Smile

Well DS2 looks fantastic on my 22" Widescreen monitor & NVIDIA 7600 GT (AGP). I was expecting some kind of problems or trouble -- for all the technical issues people claimed last year.

Good framerate et al.

Ooooh. I think I am a bit envious. ^^

I think Wal-Mart is icky, but sometimes it really is too convenient to pass up the occasional trip there. Hope you enjoy the game, that is an excellent price. Smile

*chuckle* Actually I have always preferred Ranger for my main hero since DS1, and go w/ Various names, Serena, Zamira, Xamira, Solanerha --- as you might guess females. I find the male "avatars" much too boring heh.

And I liked how I could get a decent dwarf party member at a decent time in DS1.

Currently at the very beginning of a 'darkskinned' Dryad. Using a few basic mods:

Elys_DS2BW_Succubus_v11.ds2res
Girl Armor Broken World 1_7.ds2res
MoveQuietly.ds2res
ReleaseAnyone.ds2res
RingRemoval.ds2res
UberStash.ds2res

Though I was a bit confused at first, since they didn't appear to be doing anything, until I noticed where Elys' mod installed itself into...which was the resources directory... meaning the "Mods" directory I had dumped all that into wasn't even being looked at heh.

I'll probably sneak my formulas.ds into there to make the game harder again, but that can wait a lil while.

I rarely put any mods in the Resources directory these days. Instead I create a new shortcut that adds a res_path.

And I really HATE installers that put things in Resources without asking me first!

I got addicted to the "Naked Sorceress" build back in the Diablo series, so most of my DS characters play that way. Major offense, negligable defense, run around dodging a lot, and look for mana-regenerating jewelery!

Yeah I recall the line commands, had to use that to set the screen resolution to 1600 x 1050. Just thought it defaulted to Mods in the pre-created "Mods" directory. Suppose shouldn't assume that things should make sense.

I don't think even DSMOD and its siblings use the Mods directory! Though they may save there by default, they use the same command-line parms as the main exe.

AFAIK, DS2Mod uses it's Mods directory, but the resource files must have an extension of .ds2mod and not .ds2res. I don't think vanilla DS2 or BW have auto-generated Mods directories...

I think at one point Elys' exe's (All Saves...) weren't using any ini files / command line parameters so that may be the problem with trying to use a custom mods directory. I'm not sure though, and have no idea if it was ever "fixed".

DS2 doesn't really like mods, of course. There's the whole issue of only being able to add mods at the start of a game.

But I never understood why the .dsmod extension was there. I don't remember being able to use them with the main exe, only with DS2mod. I gave up on them so long ago I can't remember the whole story. These days I use Elys' All*Saves to avoid the problem.

They weren't. Tried using your My Test World mod as per your suggestion and DS2Mod kept locking up. Sad

I'd suggest MTW, DS2Mod and a \bits folder with only your modified files in it (i.e. not huge volumes of untanked GPG resources). See the MTW readme file for the ini flag used to set up an alternate \bits folder (to make things easier to separate).

I just don't see the need to use DS2Mod to run the game, since Elys' Mod makes it possible to take full advantage of the optimized real game .exe

I just wish I understood that darn slider cuz I can't seem to be able to get a good zoom - its either too far away or too damn close hehehe.
