Dungeon Siege and Vista?

I'm not planning to install the Vista update just yet..
as Windows XP seems to be doing the job OK, at the moment..

does anybody have any feedback on how our fave game(s)**
behave with the new Windows operating system..??

**(..obviously, including DS1 and LOA!)

From what I've been told by people who have it, a LOT of programs don't run on Vista, especially games. I don't know if this applies to Dungeon Siege. The chances are likely it doesn't. If anyone can clarify that...

Someone at SiegeCore (in the forums) was testing a Beta version of Vista and DS2... can't remember what the results were like though.

I've read reports that sound has been a big issue with some games..

Creative have had problems with their drivers and a lot of users are reverting to on-board sound as a back-up..

No doubt there will be a solution in due course..

- it's early days, yet..

- found some examples of DX10 graphics.. sure looks neat!!

- I wonder, how does DS2 compare with these..??
- now all I need is a completely new PC!!

Found the topic: DS2 + Vista : check result

Sounds like DS2 worked for the tester, but with a couple minor glitches. My guess is that different hardware might have different results too (most games being driver dependant of course).

BTW, I won't be upgrading my current machine to Vista either. When I buy new hardware I'll get it then.

That's definately a smart thing to do, Sharkull. Wait for the bugs to be ironed out, and the rest of the technology to be completely compatible with Vista, then upgrade. Most newer games work fine, it seems.

I was curious if Dungeon Siege 1 works on Vista...

I skimmed this article a few days ago, and didn't see anything DS related, but it is an interesting read for gaming gurus...
Will Vista Run Your Games

I have been informed that DS1, well the Abstraction siegelet does at least, seems to work fine in Vista.

As does Siege Editor, and I imagine the other modding tools do.

If you do go the Vista route, beware of the download option... get a DVD instead.

Ah, yet another reason to use linux instead.... *winks at solly* Smile

..as I understand it, Vista has a slightly different version of DX9 built into it for backwards compatibility..
- some reports seem to suggest that this newer version of DX9 is better than the 9c we XP-users are used to..
I just wondered if there was any improvement in DS2 and/or DS2BW, does anyone have Vista running DS2?

- like Sharkull, I'm hanging back waiting for this new baby to learn to walk properly..

We have just bought Vista and so far, DS1 is no go. Hopefully it can rise again as I was JUST about to finish the damn thing.
