Welcome to a new age

Or something like that.. So anyway, this is the new site. I hope you like it.
It will take some time to get used to but check out the help (green link under the elf in hte header) for a a quick update on new features. I should point out that this site is heavily in beta and that there are some things not working properly yet. Internet Explorer users might not get the prettiest version of the site since I haven't installed IE (using linux). I will start tweaking the css to take care of that though. Just report any problems you find here.

Important! There have been a few reports of problems with logging in. What you can do if you have a similar problem is to clear out any cookies for std.seijsing.se and siegetheday.org. And use the full url with "www" i.e: http://www.siegetheday.org.

Oh, and I messed up the avatars... I will upload them again but go ahead and upload yours again if you have a local copy of it and if you want to save me some time.

Edit: I've switched the site to use http://www.siegetheday.org instead since that is what most members seem to use. Login in to that address if you have any problems.

Omg! I just got back after a few days to see the new site! I LOVE it! Smile

A bit of an awkward question that will most likely impose scrutiny on me is :
Where did the post count go?

Wow, TAS -
..your avatar looks stunning against the black background.. Smile

No more post count?

Sjr > 1. The problem with not ending up on the proper page when going to a post is a bug that is being worked on to be fixed and I hope it is fixed soon since it is annoying. If nothing else Drupal 5 is almost ready to be released.

2. That could be a cookie problem, it might be set for the wrong url, or that you use http://siegetheday.org instead of http://www.siegetheday.org.

Blondin > The blog feature is there and ready to be used if you want one. Right now I only mention it on the help page, but the blog feature will be activated per account if a member wants to blog about a project or DS in general.

TAS > Drupal doesn't show post count by default and I didn't feel it was important enough to fiddle with the needed code for it. Sorry. Smile Glad you like it.

Keke, another bug I just noticed after making the post. I seem to get logged out from time to time for no reason I can see. I posted here, then clicked a couple times and saw nothing was showing as new and then I noticed on the left side I was no longer logged in. Whats up with that?

I guess it wasn't that simple. I easily reproduced it by logging in and then going to the startpage by pressing the logo.

I'm gonna see if I can figure something out.

Edit: I am starting to think it is a problem with the caching system. If I am taken to the base url I get a cached page (to save on server resources when bots and non-members visit) which makes it appear like I am not online. But if I hit a link that take me away from the base url I am logged in again. So the logged in session never closes, it just appears like it does.

Edit2: Hitting the logo vill not get you a cached page anymore. Any suggestions for any other ways of reproducing this bug?

The way it works right now is that you have to ask for a blog (well hidden information) but I will change that tomorrow.

I've opened the blogs for all registered members so you don't have to ask for one anymore. Just remember to occasionally use them to share your Dungeon Siege experiences with the rest of us. Smile

I just setup the news aggregator. I couldn't think of a good name for it so I just named it "collected news" for now. You can find it in the "site" menu. The news aggregator syndicates feeds and publishes them on the site. There is for example a feed for what google finds that has to do with Dungeon Siege.

Ooh, I like the separate page for news feeds. Very nice.

...and I like the no post count thing (big surprise eh?). :P

hey, sol77..
It would be nice to have a page number index at the top of each page
- to save all that scrolling..

Yes it would. I'll put it on my todo.

edit: I looked through the code for it but I only found the paging system for the forum pages so far, not the topics themselves.
I'll get to it though once I've taken care of some more pressing matters. In the mean time I've lessened the amount of comments posted on each page. This is the number I had intended but the bug with the paging system will be more apparent now.

The clicking the "new" link on the category page and being taken to the first post is getting old.

Hehe, made this post and it took me to the begining of this thread so I was gonna add that to this post when I realized that after I posted I was logged out and had to relogin. So it proably does take you to the last post after posting, provided you dont get logged out. (rolling eye smiley - since no longer smilies to pick from when making posts and I am not about to learn all the smilie post symbols)

Nope I was wrong after a post and not getting logged out you dont get brought back to the end of the thread.

I can't fix this, sorry. I am waiting for the drupal folks to jump in on this one and fix it. It is a bug in the pager system that seems to have a faulty page calculation when figuring out what page the sought comment is on.

It sounds like you have a problem with cookies or something. I atleast don't get logged out after posting, no matter if I am using IE or FX. And I don't think you get looged out at all. You probably get a cached page since you are for some reason taken to the base URL, maybe because your cookie is set to use http://siegetheday.org as the base url. I'll look into it some more though.

This could be by design or related to first issue.

Well, just a forum-suggestion:

When i click on a link leading to an external source beyond SiegeTheDay.org that source/page will load in current window (so i loose the current forum) instead of opening a new blank target window to load in the external page there.

Of course there is the Back-button and the 'open in new window' option, however it seems to me this is not the default behaviour of most forums!?

- and using the right-click options in IE7 reports a "page not found" error..

I agree but it seems the developers of Drupal have gone the other way. I can probably change it by modifying the BBCode parser when I find the time.
Doing some research in school and the deadline is coming up so it will probably be a while, but I will give it a shot.

Blondin235 wrote:

Hmm.. what version of IE7 are you using? I don't get that problem with the RC1 version.

@sol77: Well, i just have seen this forum has enhanced html tag support!? - Mostly that is disables so i didn't try it...

So instead of BBcode the next link reference in HTML would open a new window:
<a href="http://www.external-link.com" target="_blank">Test-Link</a>

...and even more amazing - it will be parsed: Test-Link

Now i should just know how to edit/update my own post with links!?
If somebody has made a post after mine, there is not more edit-button/-function !?
