Separate Locations DS2 & Broken World

I got my DS2 and Broken World in the Mail Dance
It is not like the DS1+LOA, where they both installed to.
DS2 installed in the microsoftgames folder of the programfiles,
while Broken World created its own subfolder of programfiles called 2kgames.
Does this mean that Broken World is a separate game?
Is this normal?
I know LOA had it's own launcher but it was different for me.
DS1&LOA (I guess that too was a deluxe because they were together on 3 CDs)...
Those installed at the same location.
This is confusing to me.
For one thing, if Broken World IS a separate game,
why did it only take 1 CD to install it,
and 4 CDs for DS2?
Is it a problem if they are in seperate folders?
The installer asked me where to install broken world
but I wasn't sure if I should change it or it was normal what it was doing.

I mean if I patch DS2 to 2.2, then Broken World is not being patched... right?

First Broken World is not a separate game. It is an add-on the reason for the two separate folders is DS2 Was release by Micro Soft and Broken World was Released by 2K Games. The games being in different folders is not an issue.

Second DS2 must be patched to version 2.2 because Broken World is version 2.3 (no patches) When you install Broken World you will get an error if DS2 is not patched to 2.2.

Third the reason Broken World is only 1 CD is that it uses the resources/maps of DS2. When Broken World loads the first thing that happens is that DS2 files load and then the broken world files load (over writing some of the DS2 files and adding the new stuff).

Allow Broken World to install where the installer wants to put it. On my laptop the games are exactly where the installers put them. On one of my desktop computers All the versions of dungeon siege are installed on E drive, which also contains all the third party maps, mods and my modding tools. On the second desktop DS1 and LOA are on C drive, DS2 and Broken World are on L Drive (A very large removable drive) mainly as a backup for the other two computers.

hope that helps

Thank you very much for the response.

My Brokens world CD didn't ask me to patch anything and installed without any errors... But,
I went ahead and ran the 2.2 patch for DS2 a day after.

What if the deluxe version comes already patched?
I think LOA addon auto-patched DS1 (and mine was also together as a deluxe)

So I might have messed up by adding the patch. Because there was no error, or halt, or warning, or anything when I installed the last CD (Broken World). I did fire up Broken World but it said I couldn't play until I finished DS2. But it did launch. The appearance looks like the AllSaves launcher... Woe, I did install the allsaveslauncher and perhaps that is why they look the same.

The legend Mod is AWESOME! I highly recommend it to anyone who liked DS1. Looks much better.

However I think it might be the result of the 'betterloot' mod I downloaded not being compatible, or something, because no barrel I bust has anything inside it. I will remove it and test.

I wonder if I can get the Project Britannias seiglets to run on the DS2 engine!

Thanks again.

If the game was already patched you would have got a message saying you do not need to install the patch.
You can play broken world without playing all the way through DS2, You just need to use one of the pre-made characters (they are all level 40). I believe they are part of the standard game, but are for sure part of the legendary mod. I would play through a few of the legendary mod maps first just to see how things work.

Thank you. I will try that.
I got rid of the old mod that was suppose to do that and the barrels are full again.
I was wondering what the template was for the very first chest in the cargo thingy the dragon drops on the beach and the characters storm out of. That would be the perfect container to test new items.
Also if there are modding tools for DS2 that DS1 had.
Like .asp import scripts for gmax.
Or an asp viewer for DS2.
Or a node viewer.
Or a world editor like DS1 had.
Really would like to build a singlet for the DS2 engine.
That would be real fun!

Dungeon Siege 3 allows for the XBox360 controller plugged into the PC.
Does the other DSes allow for this?
Is there a mod that could?

It seems that there is a steam controller that people are using.
But I only have the Xbox controller.

#xbox360 #dungeonsiege #controller

I also have an xbox controller and I have never found a software fix, patch, or workaround for DS1 or DS2. But then I have been using a mouse for so long the actions are automatic so never really looked to hard.
