Modding BW, news about the DS2TK.

Too sad to write about... just a link instead:

Could just be that they are keeping silent because they don't know if they can pull it off. Or DT hasn't been informed yet. But it is indeed sad if we don't get a DSTK for BW.

I think it is too early to worry though.

Does not look good, but that is possible Sol.

I'm certainly hoping that it's just something they don't want to commit to yet (for all the "where are the tools" nagging it would bring) or something big they want to announce in a special way...

Generally i think already now the expectaion for BW are too high.

It seems there were not enough fundamental changes (hard-codec functions eg. for drop behavour, spellbook short key support, party control, ...) so GPG wasn't disposed to update the engine (check once this thread) so why should they offer a new toolkit as restrictive they are?
Well don't ask me now, what the official (and acceptable, due to performacne) solution is to play mods with... Sad

Only because there is now an addon too GPG won't start a big modding support offensive, they just want bring in some money with managable effort before all the interests on DS2 vaporised.

We even should have some comprehension for GPG.
About mods, most players only look for cheat mods, clear that GPG doesn't like what (CRC check we salute you...) and for the rest of the gamers it's just to painful to maintain a moddding support.
And about maps, i think the SE2 is a quite inefficient application, for privates anyway, but i even can't imagine how professional developpers can productively (=>financiable) work with it. 8O

I'm going back to DS1 - since I never completed the whole campaign anyways.

Going forward I think we might see some of the DS2 things backported to DS1 - like XP sharing could easily be done. With some work the "super powers" could be backported though I don't know why anyone would want to -- skillgroups/sets would of been much more welcomed armour/weapons/specialties, perhaps even individual skill levels for spells - instead of them just being completely based on the casters level.

Pets could be backported, enchanting probably requires binary code and perhaps not worth the bother.

As I've stated elsewhere new content and new "super powers" isn't worth more money if the partyUI/formations isn't fixed among other outstanding issues. Will just be new content layered ontop of what I consider a broken game.

Or, someone could remake the DS2TK to make it better, but I doubt anyone is that advanced. This is why I always stayed primarily with DS1....easier to make more complicated mods.

Two points:

1. There is no reason to believe that the DS2TK tools won't work for modding BW. It's just a new map and content, not a new engine. They can't change too much and let you import your characters.

2. DS2 really has too much added relative to DS1 already. It's too elaborate a game with powers, pets etc., that don't really add anything but do screw up features of the game it was based on. E.g. Powers make PvP a nightmare. A simpler game has more flexibility, especially for mods.

The only reasons I'm working with DS2 are that some players don't have DS1, and I like the new terrain stuff. If I could turn off the "enhancements" I would do so - especially the over-use of SFX.

I wonder if DS2Mod will work well if you untanked BW's map and resources into \Bits (basically wondering how much of BW's changes are hardcoded... and if any new resource features were added to block this compatibility). :?

I see the future for DS2 to be grim indeed.

More bad news... looks like my earlier fears might turn out to be real:
