Corrupted savegame/.gas file?

Hello everyone. Recently picked up DS2 BW again and playing it with the Aranna Legacy mod (u), inventory mod, supershops mod and a few others that only slightly change the game. I've always played the game with that kind of combination of mods for years without any problems whatsoever.

Almost reached level 32 in mercenary mode (now in Snowbrook Valley) and wanted to take a break so saved the game. Then, when I tried to exit the game an error appears. Since then every time I try to start DSII BW (using AllSaves btw) it freezes on the startup screen with the white dots in the lower left corner and an error message appears telling me that DSII stopped working.

After digging around in the internet I found out that there might be some problem involving the savegame file from my character and the current.gas and/or prefs.gas files (located in My Documents/My Games etc...)

Did some experiments: Loaded a previous savegame (lvl 30) and played until I reached level 31, saved immediately and exited the game. Was able to load that game without any problems, but it seems if I keep playing for just a little bit (reaching approx. lvl 31.4 character level), save the game and try to load it, the error pops up again.
Tried reinstalling the game and using that savegame, didn't work.
Tried replacing the corrupted prefs.gas and current.gas files with the working ones from my previous savegame, not working.
Tried deleting the .gas files and starting up the game (was suggested by someone on another forum), not working
Thought it might be the map file so ran past two teleporters to another part of the map (close to Snowbrook castle), saved the game and was able to load it successfully
Tried replacing the .gif files with the ones in the DSII (NOT BW) folder, didn't work

I'm running out of ideas, what I'll try next is just to load the working savegame (when I just reached lvl 31) and play until I reach lvl 32 and then try to save and reload it to see if it works. Perhaps its some kind of bug that comes up when you are in between lvl 31 and 32?

On a side note, the game has had no problems whatsoever so far. I have a strong PC which is about a year old.

Anyone had this kind of error/problem and was able to fix it? I'd hate to start all over again...

I found the solution to my problem!
Saw another thread in the forums regarding a save file issue with Multiplayer and someone suggested that there are too many items in the character's inventory which causes the save file to be corrupted. The maximum amount of items is 255 or something like that,
I am using the largest Zhix inventory mod and it's almost full. Started up the game from my working save (lvl 31), sold all my stuff from my inventory and played a bit, saved and exited the game. Started and continued playing with no problems!

If anyone else encounters this problem, don't forget to empty your inventory and sell your stuff!
