DS2TK and Steam

Anybody had any luck getting the Dungeon Siege 2 Tool Kit working with the Steam installation of the game?

I'm not using the steam version of the game but could you explain your problem ?
OS, Game version, DS2TK version ,...
Oh and if you use the Steam fix version to get Broken world ?

When I initially tried to install the DS2TK I was getting the "Cannot find DS 2 installed" error message. I continued to get this even after I applied the correct fixes and loaded Broken World. I eventually got past that but now DS2Mod wants the CD inserted.

OS: Windows 10
Game Version: Steam?
DS2TK Version: 1.1

I understand your problem as I encountered it during testing the installer for the Legendary Mod, as steam compatibility was very important due to the number of issues that surfaced from previous versions of the installer.

I'm sorry to say but I don't believe there's a simple solution to your problem other than obtaining a physical copy of DS2. The reason being is that DS2Mod is a special debug version of the DS2 exe. It's completely separate from the game exe.

Unless you can find a way of removing the copy protection check from DungeonSiege2Mod.exe, I don't think you'll be able to get it working with the digital version. Or we could ask GPG could they release a version of the toolkit that could work with the digital version of DS2 (another words removing the copy protection check themselves). Since the toolkit was released for free and assuming there's no copyright restrictions to this and assuming GPG still has the source for the toolkit, this may be possible.

It may be possible to remove the copy protection check from DungeonSiege2Mod.exe by comparing it to the steam version of DS2 (which is of similar size) but you may need to unpack the exe in order to get it to work (the cracked version of DS2 is three times the size of the regular version).

Another option which may be more feasible is to get someone to make a disk image of the first CD of DS2's installation disks. This is the disk DS2Mod checks when loading. If you then use a free program like Virtual CloneDrive (which I have used for quite a few years), you can mount this disk. This still won't be enough to make DS2Mod work as it won't be able to find the mounted drive unless you make it drive E:, which the DS2 Broken World fix creates by default. You could also try putting the image on an USB stick if you have one which uses drive E:

Otherwise you may need to edit the registry to change the DS2 values for the install drive to something other than E.

I'm sorry there's no simply solution but I'm sure we'd all be interested to know if you find one.

UPDATE#
I tried a couple of things without success. Using an USB stick didn't work nor did mounting an image. Maybe using a dvdrip and copying program to make an identical backup disk may work but you would need the disk to begin with.

And yes I did edit the registry so that DS2 would be expecting the CD Drive to be Drive E: where I mounted the image after first using it as an USB stick drive.

I managed to get it working by applying the DS2 registry fix, torrenting a copy of Dungeon Siege 2, and then mounting the DS2 CD and running DS2Mod. I don't have the patience to unpack and jump the CD protection currently.
