Look out! Windows 10 is coming.

There is now a little icon at the end of my desktop's bottom taskbar: "Get Windows 10", and Windows Update is inviting me to register for my free upgrade. Anyone heard anything about the chances of DS2 still working? (or DS1 for that matter).

Have not heard anything about DS1 working with windows 10. Think someone said it works with DS2 but not sure. Anyway I will wait to update my windows until 7 is no longer supported.

DS2 works ok with W8.1 so maybe it will work same with 10.Im upgrading asap Smile

I have the option to upgrade to windows 10 also, but I think I am going to give it a pass. Dungeon Siege 1 works on win7 and I don't feel like pressing my luck.

I have a computer to spare. Whenever I can, I'm going to update one of them to 10 and see how it goes- or see if I can find my own workaround for it. Who knows, maybe it'll be as simple as running it in compatibility mode. I've heard Windows 10 is supposed to be kinda like.. "Going back to basics", but at the same time introducing "Exciting new features" or whatever. So maybe it will be more forgiving with older software than Windows 8 and 8.1 was? Since 8 and 8.1 were basically a phone on a computer, which was always a silly idea to begin with. Not just in appearance, but in the way it works, so far as I know.
Maybe it'll work out. xD

At least with the pre-released version here is a copy of Blondin235's comment found on page 3 of the Legendary Mod Thread

- still working on the DS2 compatibility settings..

Let us hope that Microsoft does not read the comment before the offical release of windows 10 Smile

I am happy to hear that DS2 is compatible with Windows 10. However I have heard no news on if the tools for modding will work with windows 10 as there where issues with some of the tools with windows 8 and 8.1. Has anyone tried Windows 10 with things like Tank Viewer, Tank Creator 2, skrit pad, and the Dungeon Siege II tool kit? Also has anyone tried Dungeon Siege 1 and Legends of Aranna with Windows 10? If these things do not work then I will will stay with Windows 7 I think.

The tools appear to work with Win 10. Dungeon Siege 1 and Legends of Aranna also work and I didn't even get a compatibility warning like you do with Win 7.

Overall the upgrade progress was very fluent and quick. No doubt there will be issues but so far so good. Though take that with a grain of salt as its only been 2 hours since upgrading.

Migrating your existing favourite links to Microsoft Edge (the new browser that replaces Internet Explorer) was painless and I notice that most of the start menu entries are present in the new start menu. The only one I couldn't find was Siege Editor 2 which I had to start from the folder using File Explorer, the replacement for My Computer.

If you're unsure about upgrading, I would wait for a month or so and see if any issues surface but if you're adventurous - by all means jump right in.

Thank you iryan.
It is good to know that windows 10 works with the tools, Dungeon Siege 1 and Legends of Aranna. I think however I will take your advise and wait a month or two before upgrading.

found the trick for Dungeon Siege and DSLoa, at Microsoft (would you believe..!!)
Install in compatibility mode for Windows 7, and follow the instructions:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/how-to-install-dungeon-siege-legends-of-aranna/

1 - run a new game in Dungeon Siege and make a save - this will create a prefs file in MyDocs/DungeonSiege
2 - then run a new game in DS/Loa and again make a save, to create a prefs file in MyDocs/Dungeon LOA..
3 - then do as described in the link above - ie copy over the changes from the DS folder to the DSLoA folder

I have managed to get DS2 running with Win10 (Build 10547) using compatibility set for Win8,
and adjusting the .cfg file in Documents\My Games to run with AMD R9 380 graphics (at 1600x900 res)
- the original version of Dungeon Siege2 (updated to v2.2) will run from the CD..

Elys'_all_saves (the DS2 version) - with compatibility set for Win7 - will install and run in this build of Win10..
DS1 and DSLoA runs in Win10 - with a cr*ck to enable No-CD - allowing the DS1 Legendary Mod for DS2 to load/run successfully

Has anyone had any joy getting the CD version of Broken World running in Win10 yet?

The initial installation from DS2BW CD goes OK, but I can't get the game to run in Win10
my intention is to get DS2BW running with the appropriate version of Elys' All_Saves..

- any ideas on how to proceed?

Broken World runs fine for me in Win 10 but then it was already installed when I upgraded the OS.

If the initial installation works, the first thing I would do is look at the folder you installed BW into so you can confirm that everything's installed correctly.

If the above is fine then you should be able to run BW by clicking the DungeonSiege2.exe found in the BW folder. If it doesn't run are there any specific error messages? Perhaps it can't find the base Dungeon Siege 2 game if the registry has been damaged during the upgrade or the appropriate settings lost for DS2. Dungeon Siege 2 itself doesn't need to be registered in the registry for it to run but Broken World needs the registry to be able to find DS2.

Another alternative could be to use a crack to run Broken World. That's what I use for convenience and have no problems with it.

Another thing to try if Broken World has installed correctly but refuses to run, is to try to install the BW version of Elys' All_Saves and see what happens. Even if it doesn't work it may give clues through whatever error message is generated. The more information we receive about the situation, the better the chances are that we can help.

but then how does win10 run in general then (outside of ds for doing daily stuff)? i ask because the web is chock full of comments of win10 being laggy and slow. it looks like m$ pulled another vista with win10... :rip:

win10 is also loaded with spying and tracking algorithms. something i think kathy would strongly despise. thankfully, she was wise enuff NOT to upgrade! :sigh:

looks like win7 will become the next windows xp. companies wont want to upgrade to win10 cuz of the security issues with the spying and tracking algorithms. they will just beotch at m$ to keep supporting win7 like they did with winxp. long live winxp! long live windows 7!

From what I have seen and what I have heard Windows 10 is not as good as Windows 7 but better than Windows 8. It is not as bad as Vista the only Windows OS as bad as Vista was ME.

I don't think Win10 is too much of a downgrade from Windows 7, having had it for a while. Although in my experience it's a bit glitchy so far... but that could also be my aging laptop. Not really going into specific deets, but overall, it's still a massive improvement over the blunder that was Win8. Plus I like the ability to play the odd app every now and then, if that sort of thing interests you.
Take Windows 7, make it look physically smoother but say it's slightly handicapped and that's Win10. Not incompetent, but not horrid.
Although I would say you should probably do what a lot of people did with XP, that is, use Win7 at least until it becomes obsolete.
