Tweaking the graphics

Using the same filtering and detail enhancement techniques used in the DS1 Legendary Mod, I've applied the same techniques to DS2 and Broken World's texture.

Since the graphics in DS2 are already slightly improved over DS1's, it's a matter of personal preference whether you think these enhancements are worthwhile.

While it has been proven that DS2 can display HD textures, they would have to be redrawn from scratch to take advantage of the higher resolutions, otherwise they would appear as normal.

I have also tinkered with the ENBSeries of graphical tweaks but DS2 doesn't support many of the effects that makes them effective in other games.

The simplest technique to improve the graphics of DS2 and Broken World is simply run the game in a higher resolution but that can make the text very hard to see.

Current Downloads for DS2 Broken World

Only use the Broken World texture mod if you have Broken World as DS2X_Mod_Objects_.ds2res will cause some graphical errors in vanilla DS2.

I really like the way that looks. Will you be releasing this as a mod?

That's the plan. This and using a high resolution to start the game should look great.

It will be a very big download, how big I can't say yet as not everything that's been converted is necessary and the batch convertor messed up some things, like the rails for the travelling carts in Eirulan. I hope to get a version out this weekend.

The first version of the mod has been released. Please note that its very large as basically it alters all of the existing graphics in DS2 and Broken World. Only use the Broken World texture mod if you have Broken World as DS2X_Mod_Objects_.ds2res will cause some graphical errors in vanilla DS2.

The only thing unchanged is the player's and storekeepers' inventory, due to slight distortions.

Hi Iryan,
Just a few questions.
I am assuming that since the DS2X_Mod_Objects can cause problems with Vanilla DS2 both it and the related Terrain file should go into the Broken World Resources folder where the original DS2X objects and terrain files are located and the ds2 objects and terrain files go in the DS2 Resources folder. That is how I will install it, but if I am wrong please let me know.

Hi Iryan.
The updated graphics look great in both Dungeon Siege 2 and Broken World. However there are some oddities with the updated graphics and Adepts. Some of the basic armor and character bodies are bright silver. Other characters are not wearing armor and their bodies show as either orange/black or yellow/black. Putting armor on them works. I expect that There is either a priority or time stamp conflict, since you are most likely using a very high priority to override both the objects and the terrain in the standard games and other mods that might change either. I guess it might be necessary to incorporate these HD Textures into Adepts itself.

I shall continue to play adepts without the graphic updates.

Strictly speaking these aren't HD graphics. Not sure if they even qualify as SD graphics as they're still mostly a maximum of 256x256 pixels. I do intend to dabble one day in making HD textures for the game, for characters if nothing else but this current version just uses some nifty filtering effects and bloom to make the graphics as sharp as possible.

It won't be a priority problem as the priorities are 999 for the DS2 objects and texture packs, and 9999 for the Broken World objects. Adepts uses 32767.

You are right that specific graphics will need to be made for those problematic armors. These errors in Adepts are similar to what would happen in DS2 itself if you use the Broken World objects mod and played using the DS2 exe. So you are quite correct that the best place to put the Broken World mods in this case is in the Broken World resources folder. They will still work in Broken World but not interfere if you want to play a DS2 game without Broken World.
