Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

There has been a lot of talk here of making old games playable on newer systems.
When it comes to old games it is Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator which was released on Halloween 1999 I have played it on every version of Windows from 95 to XP without any modification or tweaking of Windows. It runs on all single core processors from the 286 to what is current today. I have never tested it on a multi-core processors but I would almost believe it would work with those as well. The graphics compare remarkably well with games released years later. It does use Quick Time for most of the sound like music and character conversations and video sequences so that may have something to do with it. The Creators and their companies have long since disappeared but the game does exist for download.
There are several good Walkthroughs and videos on how to play it in various languages.
Here is a link to wikipedia that talks about the game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Septerra_Core
For some screen shots just google Septerra Core Screen Shots.
If you can find it try it and let me know if it works on your system. If you already own it try it on your current system and see if it works, I would like to know.

Elf

forums:

It is a truly classic game and one of my favourites though not everyone would like it's style (a lot different to Dungeon Siege to be sure).

I also owned it since it was released and still have the cd lying around some where. Like Bare Elf I also ran it under most Win systems. The current version I use I downloaded from GOG when it was on sale and cost a staggering 1.99 US. The rationale being that it was suppose to be fully patched and confirmed to work under Win 7 and Win 8. Plus I love the idea of not having DRM in my games though the last official patch created for Septerra Core removed that obstacle from the game,

Well all of that is a bit of a furphy. It won't run when first installed under Win 7 or 8 until you do quite a bit of tinkering (how much tinkering depends on your system, etc). Following the advice at this excellent forum at GOG http://www.gog.com/forum/septerra_core_legacy_of_the_creator#1380163570 I was able to get it running in Win 8 on my laptop with some enhancements courtesy of the unofficial patch. For those who don't want to use such a patch or it doesn't work for you, there's plenty of other advice on how to get it running in modern versions of Windows.

time for me to bust out windows 98 se again. havent booted that os on my old pc in a long time...
