Chatty Kathy's

How about a thread of general chatting? Maybe we can post things about ourselves to get to know each other better, or just post chatty stuff. So anyway, here are a few things about me: So...tell me about you? BTW, this is the "real" Chatty Cathy forums: |

Those codes aren't associated with this site. We're keeping our list modestly sized for a couple reasons (mainly to be friendlier to lower bandwidth visitors). Eventually we hope to have our list available when composing a new post, and having a large list would slow everything down.
If you want to use one of those smilies in a post, then do what I do for one-time posting of images: upload it onto a free image hosting site (like Image Shack) and then tag it in using BBCode.
I'm still in the "infant" computer knowledge stage, have no idea what BBC code is or how to edit it :goofy:
Edit: Saw the BBCode tags while pressing "Post comment"
BBCode is explained in the same page as the smilie listing. For embedding images use this syntax:
Good mini-tutorial for noob's. Thanks
I wrote a tutorial a while ago that is just about posting images:
http://siegetheday.org/?q=node/367
When you post, you want to be sure the image (if not one of your own) is uploaded to a free image host such as imageshack or photobucket, and not hotlinked. That is explained in the tutorial.

Thanks for sharing information :girlwerewolf: I may progress to "Grade School" level in computer knowledge if this keeps up
Love the spider emoticon Sharkull. I'll spin my web and strike when you don't even think I'm there.

You guys are gonna save me a bunch of money. With entertainment like this I might as well sell my TV. ^^
Solly reading the forums:
Yup, that sure is me. ^^
Quite the smily fest here.....
What's in a smily?
That which we call a smily by any other name, would be just as funny...
I am partial to my new friend, Wavey.
Say hello to the nice people, Wavey. :wavey:

Well, it is Wednesday. The literature forum I belong to displays member birthdays (if the member chooses to put that information in their profile, of course). A certain young man who is a member there as well as here is celebrating his 16th birthday today. Although we haven't seen you in a while, Best wishes on your birthday, Loup Ombrage!

Oh to be 16 again... what a nice dream-come-true that would be (but only if I retained all my current knowledge and memories of course).
I finally got to the movies. We went to the drivein theatre Saturday night and saw "Casino Royale" and "Spiderman 3". It was kind of chilly, but I had a coat and a blanket. We brought Dillon too, because he is a big spidey fan. There were these obnoxious kids congregated behind the car (I parked near the woods in the back....must sit far from the madding crowd ;)). They were having a little party back there, but went away when Spiderman started.
I really couldn't follow Casino Royale and have never been a James Bond fan anyway. Spiderman was ok...the special effects were wonderful. It was nice to get out, and I am glad the drivein is open again. It is one of the few left in Massachusetts and nationwide, driveins are a dying breed.

Hey :shark:, tried to upload smilies to Image Shack but it says unsupported format, not sure how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

What's the file type? ImageShack only supports the following:
jpg jpeg png gif bmp tif tiff swf < 1.5 megabytes.
...
And Solly (for your use, the next time Canada beats Sweden in Hockey...):
:P
Don't know how to upload url from your earlier post.

Did you read the tutorial I mentioned? It covers uploading images by url. I am looking at the page Sharkull gave the url for and already uploaded several smilies by url to my photobucket album. *cheers for smilies*
*EDIT*
Ok, I had only covered doing that with photobucket. I added in imageshack.
Or I guess you weren't asking about that at all. Welp, whatever.
*Goes off to contiue being useless. *

Image Shack has a radio button for uploading from a URL, but I've never done it that way (you'd need the full URL for the file if you choose that method). I prefer to copy the smilie files I want into a folder on my hard-drive, and then upload to I.S. from there... for the site mentioned I went into my "Temporary Internet Files" and copied the smilie files from there to my emoticon folder.
I copy the url location and paste it into the add url option at Image Shack, but it won't work for me.
Far from being useless Kathy

Is it just one picture that doesn't work, or is it every single image you try to upload? I wonder, because I uploaded about 10 to photobucket, but one didn't work for some reason, even though it was a gif. It was just the one though, all the others uploaded.
The thing I like about photobucket is that I can keep all my images on line in different albums, so they are always there when I want to post them. I don't have to keep them on my hard drive unless I want to. It looks like this:

Do I have to upload one image at a time?
Edit: yup one at a time :woot: Here's a couple for :sun:

Haha, thanks Volkan.
Bought a new digital 19" LCD display this week (upgrade from an old 17" CRT)... and WOW, what a difference. It's taking a little getting used to, because the brights are brighter and the darks are darker. Some things are a bit harder to see sometimes, but after fighting with my vid-card and the monitor settings I think I have things working great.
(Some smilies look really pixelated now though... ).
I find lcd monitors make reading text easier and I prefer them as they are easier to move around and take up less space, even for a larger screen size. I have had a 19" lcd at home for a couple years now and it seemed just as good for games as my old crt I had been using. Recently I got a 22" widescreen lcd as well which for everything other than games I think it is better. For games it is a bit weird as the resolution is at 1680x1050 and many games do not support this view. For example DS I was running at 1280x1024 but now I get a kind of squished effect on the 22" lcd but it still looks pretty good. The funny thing to me is that if you do a screenie it comes out at the 1280x1024 so when I look at that it is a normal view, but it looks kind of odd as I was playing on the wide view. But for video viewing it is much better as it almost eliminates the black top and bottom of movies. But it is okay, I am actually using both monitors for the same computer now. My video card has dual dvi outputs so I can plug them both in. Works out pretty good.
The best part for lcd's is that the prices keep going down. The 22" one I bought actually cost less than the 19" one I bought a couple years ago. Plus the lcd tv prices are coming down too, soon I will get a 40" lcd tv as those prices are creeping to around $1000usd.
