Dungeon Siege Adepts 2 for Broken World

Some of us here at Siegetheday have been working on making an anime version of Dungeon Siege 2 like Dungeon Siege Adepts. This has been made possible by the recent release of the Cat Mansion Boys mod by AlphaDD which ports the models made by Hamcat, back around 2003 for the original dungeon siege, into DS2. This completes the set since the Girls were released in 2011 by DDlullu (AlphaDD former avatar).

An Beta version has just been completed which converts all of the npcs in DS2 and Broken World into Cat Mansion people (including the half-giants and dwarves).

Not just a partial conversion replacing all the npcs in the game with Cat Mansion models, DS2BW Adepts is also the largest compilation of mods and new art available for Dungeon Siege 2 with over 1500 new character and npc skins, armor, weapons, spells and gameplay changes from some of the best modders from DS2/DS1 (a lot of DS1 content from 3rd party modders, publically available artpacks, Yesterhaven and Return to Arhok, etc) such as Hamcat, AlphaDD (DDlullu), Phoenix (Volkan), Darkelf, KillerGremal, Theresnothinglft, Lurker, Omniscient_Colossus, Ikkyo and of course GPG themselves. Over 30 mods are incorporated into DS2BW Adepts.

You also have more freedom in playing the campaigns. You have full access to Acts 2 and 3 once you have been cured of the plague in DS2 and in Broken World you can access Part Two straight away if you wish. Note that this really needs the Level Adjustment Mod installed to be viable.

There's also a new town and associated quest needed to unlock it in DS2.

There are two versions of the Mod. A custom folder version which is 166Mb download and requires 876Mb to create the custom folder installation of DS2BW Adepts and a basic version which is a 156Mb download and requires 247Mb to install in your Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World Folder.

Both versions at this stage require the Broken World expansion for Dungeon Siege 2. They are also not very compatible with other mods.

If you choose to install the basic version you will have to manage the conflicts with other mods yourself, saved games will be mixed up with regular saves and there'll be no custom presaves to play Broken World straight away.

Note that both installers include options for installing the Broken World All*Saves launcher

The mod is ideally designed to be played with the Monster Level Adjustment Mod
http://siegetheday.org/?q=node/1330 but will function quite happily without it (though certain features will be limited).

Thanks to Techiem2 for hosting the files to spare us having to go through Mediafire.

Remember that this is a Beta and as such is mostly feature complete and stable but expect some imbalances in weapons, armor and spells. Suggestions, bug reports, fixes, new skins, etc very much welcomed.

Hi everyone,

I've been enjoying Adepts with Aranna Legacy for about 40 hours and I must say, the characters look cute, even those Mordens looked funny.

Using my level 51 hero in Single Player mode of DS2 and DS2BW, I install Adept and have several questions:

- New armor (over 400 types)
Is there any unique or set armors between these over 400 types?
I never see Cinbri weapons sold by NPC.

- New Weapons (over 120)
Same as armor, is there any unique or set weapons?

- New spells (over 150) including 34 evocation spell discipline (autocast attack summon spells)
The only new spells I notice is Summon Gunslinger/Knight/Wizard/Maid/Beach Girl, etc.
Where is the Grimoire summon?
Where is the new spell?

- New Town and Quest in DS2
Which town is new? And which quest is new? Or is it new only in DS1 converted maps like Utraean/Arhok?

I use Windows 7 64 Bit, DS2BW version, Ely'sDS2BW All Saves, Aranna Legacy alpha 3s, Adept 1x, Adept with Aranna Legacy logic beta1, and LadyFemme's BW Spell Improvements and Fixes.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Welcome, I'm glad you're enjoying the mod.

Currently there's no unique or sets with these new armor types but that will change in some future release (but don't expect any work or new versions until the Legendary Mod is finished). It will use and expand on the unique items in that mod and probably add a couple of sets.

Same for the weapons.

The so called Grimoire spells are autocasted summons which are meant to be based loosely on the summons found in some Final Fantasy games. i.e. the summons don't last particularly long but are meant to be more powerful than regular summons. This also means that slow or non mobile monsters can be summoned as they won't try to guard their summoner. Other spells are some defensive and attack spells. Why you're not getting more variation could be due to the pcontent levels, which aren't balanced yet so some items will spawn a lot but others rarely.

Also LadyFemmes's BW Spells and Improvements could be conflicting with the new spells?

You don't actually get the quest until you reach the Agallan Peaks. You need to complete the quest before the town will fully unlock but during the beginning of the quest you will see the town but be denied access until you prove yourself but helping the citizens of the town through the quest.

Hi iryan,

Thanks for your response.

LadyFemme's Spell Improvements and Fixes may be conflicting, I have to test it out.

Regarding Grimoire spells and new spells, I have several questions:
1. Can you give me several names of those summons and new spells along with the requirements? Perhaps I have too low leveled characters.
2. Are they sold by NPC? If yes, which town and which NPC? If not, how do I find them? From loot drop or chest, or even quest reward?
3. Is there any complete Summon list? I mean the one that summon Gunslinger, Knight, Valkyrie, etc.
As far as I know, Gunslinger is the best as it has fastest attack speed, ranged attack, lot of health and armor, but they're kind of slow of following my party. It needs around 10-15 seconds idling around after summoning before started following the summoner.
I wonder if there is any better summon beside Gunslinger.

Regarding the new town, I had finished DS2 in Veteran using Adepts.
The only quest I got after talking with the giants in Agallan Peaks was to get to Zaramoth's Horns and kill Valdis.
Is there any requirements to get the new town's quest? Which NPC give the quest?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

If you know how to untank mods then you'd be able to find the list of spells quite easily in the interactive folder. There's 4 files which can be opened in notepad, adepts_spellscmagic.gas, adepts_spellsnmagic.gas, adepts_spellsummonc.gas and adepts_spellsummonn.gas

Otherwise spells should show up automatically in the magic stores, for instance Terrak Evocation is a level 4 spell.

As for the summons, for combat magic there's cannoneer, geisha, maid, ninja, dragoon, knight, wizard, warlock, gunslinger, viking, thief, rogue and sorcerer. There's similar variety with nature magic. Part of the fun is trying to see which ones work best for you.

As to why the spells aren't showing up more often in the stores could be due to the fact Aranna Legacy has been updated a few times in the last couple of years and this mod hasn't been.

I don't know why the quest isn't showing up, a well known npc based on a character here at SiegetheDay is found loitering in the hallways just before you meet the Agallan Giants, you really can't miss here. Of course the Aranna Legacy version of Adepts hasn't been as extensively tested as other versions of the mod so there may be something preventing her from appearing.

Sorry but its going to be considerable time before I will ever get a chance to work on the mod again.

Hi iryan,

Thank you for your response.

Actually I don't know ho to untank mods, I don't even know what a tank is, but I guess it's a term used for grouping files needed into another files which are used by the game.

As for the summons, I agree.
I think Cannoneer is a ranged attacker but instead, she goes melee every time she attacks.
I've tried Wizard, but the damage is awful.
As you've suggested, I'll try the others to find if there's any better summon than Gunslinger.

Ah, I see. Regarding the spells and NPC, I'll try again without Aranne Legacy installed.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Haha no offense really,
but this reminded me so much of these guys from Serious Sam Laughing out loud

I've tested it yesterday and it's true, Aranna Legacy 3s mod do prevent the NPC and some new spells and evocations from appearing.
As I went to find Agallan Giant, she was strolling around riding a... horse?
Is the pirate captain the only quest given? I didn't find any other orange exclamation mark above people's heads in the new town.
Also, the new town's teleporter, the spells, the evocations, all will be gone when you reactivated Aranna Legacy again.

As for the summons, I've tested several of them and found that Rogue and Viking suited me best.
With multiple summons from Aranna Legacy and 6 Mages, 12 Rogue and Viking swept the enemies like a plague even before I attacked them.
However, this might disturbing as Rogue and Viking tend to be aggressive and have wide area of searching enemies.
As for Gunslingers, they really deal lot of damage but the fact that they're ranged attackers, sometimes they stood behind you and didn't move to engage the enemies, even if your party was attacking.

Then, I would like to report something about Kaltharia's Rebellion, at the part after you've showed Morden Chief's head to Lord Kaltharia, I had a stopper.
When the in game scene played where people and NPC of Kaltharia fought against Mordens in the town, I found that I just need to kill 1 Morden to complete the task.
After I killed every Mordens in the city, Tehruth, the guy whom you need to report to, was lying unconscious just in front of the fountain.
Orange question mark appeared above his head, but he's not responding, no window or conversation popped up.

Here's what I did to complete the quest:
With Adepts 1x activated and Aranna Legacy deactivated, I proceed and killed 1 Morden to complete the task, then I saved the game.
With Adepts 1x activated and Aranna Legacy activated, I went to find out Tehruth. He was standing beside Lord Kaltharia with orange question mark above his head, and I was able to report to him successfully. The Lord then asked me to explore Mines of Kaderak.

Cheers.

Sorry for bringing this up again but I have a problem with Family Heirloom, Part Two. I'll try to give as much info as I can.
I kept the heirloom sword and used iryan's fix (DS1_Demon_heirloom_Fix.ds2res). The fix does make the demon appear but the quest stays stuck at Stage 1: Locate the demon.

I'm having some issues that block further progress:

  • Thestrin doesn't appear

  • I can't open or break the iron door/gate to get inside. (Wielding the sword)

  • I don't have the option to break the door, only to open it. See included screenshot.

Thank you for your time.

A Family Heirloom, II. As I and a couple of others have reported, that quest has stopped working a few updates ago in Legends as well. My (empty headed :silly: )thought is it seems that the NIS sequence trigger has somehow getting blocked from engaging and you need it to run for the quest to finish

It is very strange that everything works until you get to the prison. I always take the sword and it happens only when I reach the prison and the NIS does not run.

Ahem....Ah yes this is my fault. Profound apologies.

You're right about a few updates ago. Going on the timestamps, its from late 2012 in fact.

The Legendary Mod inadvertently overwrites the same file as used for the Demon of the Prison so it doesn't appear. This causes the prison check flick to fail and so the NIS won't run. Even if it did, the quest couldn't be completed as there wouldn't be anything to kill.

Here's a temporary fix until the next version of the Utraean Peninsula is ready as it will break some quests in current games if you're playing that map.
http://www.siegetheday.org/~iryan/files/DS1_Demon_Heirloom_Fix.ds2res

This fix should also allow the Ruby Gargoyle to drop the unique heartstopper bow like it did in DS1.

I am having some issues getting the installer to run, but would very much like to experience this mod.
I am using windows 7
I have the steam version of DS2 and have patched it to enable BW, this version is 2.3
When I start the installer it wont go past the info page, page 2. The installer states i do not have DS2BW installed so the setup can not continue.
Path is C:\steam\steamapps\common\dungeon siege 2

I read that:
5. The steam version of DS2 has the same version number as broken world retail so you must change to a DS2.exe that has the correct version number...
But i do not know how to do this.

Thank you

I have posted how to fix the steam DS2 exec file in the Legendary Mod Thread. At the present time I do not have time to look for the fixed exec. However if you search the Legendary mod thread and the Broken World Adepts thread you should find it. You could also search my posts for it but that could take a while as I have posts dating back over ten years.

Thank you much Bare Elf!
Will do as soon as i am able! Smile

Good days Ladies and Gentlemen

I would like to know, if you are still working on this mod? Taking in care, that the mod is only able to be downloaded here and not on ModDB; is hard to know, if there has been any progress on it.
I do please recomend you to update the ModDB page for this mod and post any kind of progress there. Post, screenshots, videos, anything! Is far easier to track and would get more attention and players to it!
Just to leet you know I still play Cat Mansion Adepts for the 1st Dungeon Siege and would like to buy Dungeon Siege 2 to play it with this mod... and better performance, 'cuz 30/20 FPS now days is silly. I play Dungeon Siege at 60 FPS all the time!

However we are taking a break to take care of real life issues and other projects.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

more than a year has past and there is no news on development about this mod. I do not think this is going to be ever finish, but thankfully its Legends of Aranna counter part is.
Rest In Peace Dungeon Siege Adepts 2, its sad I never got to enjoy this mod as I did with Cat Mansion back in the 2000's.

We have not given up on the mod. However there are things like children, jobs, friends dropping dead, etc. That prevent iryan and I doing anything with any mod at the present time.

Bare Elf is quite correct. You can add being burnt out to that list, after spending so much time getting the Legendary Mod to its current state, I had to take a long break from modding and just relax for a while. Plus having a young family at my age isn't easy, especially as my wife works 5-7 days a week so I have to look after them by myself quite a lot.

The Legendary Mod is also the reason work has stalled on this mod. The DS2 and Broken World campaign portion of the mod is basically complete but I had to wait until work finished on the Legendary Mod before starting again on this mod, so that's the reason why there's been no updates for over a year.

Currently about 15% of the work has been done on the support for the Legendary Mod's maps. I honestly can't see myself working on this mod for the rest of this year but considering I took nearly a year's break from the Legendary Mod development, I don't think the people who know me well will be surprised.

I don't like making promises or make predictions on release dates but I'm confident that work will probably start again on this mod sometime next year. If that disappoints you, I'm very sorry and understand your frustrations. I too have been disappointed about mods and remakes that started very promisingly but then stagnated and halted development completely (for instance the infamous XL engine by Lucius which would have supported three of my most favourite games, Daggerfall, Outlaws and Blood).
