[DS1] Derelict Project

LoneKnight's picture

I already posted this at Siege Network, but it's posted here to reach more people.

In the effort to restore and repair the scars that DS2 left this community, a massive siegelet will soon be created. This siegelet will contain everything a good campaign needs - new nodes, music, characters, weapons, armor, monsters, ships (not stolen from Britannia, mind you ), ridable horses, ridable dragons, branched conversation system, and high quality audio NPC voices - a new in Dungeon Siege modding. We are also developing our own NPC scheduling system (not stolen from Britannia, mind you ).

A large group of modders has been assembled - over 20 - to create this siegelet. It has a long, compelling, and richly detailed story, and a world that will take weeks of gameplay to discover all of its hidden secrets.

You enter a new land, filled with beautiful locations and various peoples and races - each with their own military alignment and agendas.

Not only that, but your character now can take part in large scale battles that have many opponents and allies on both sides, yet it runs smoothly and without lagging.

Derelict is slated to be released in early summer of 2006.

*Derelict is a creation of Aesir Gaming - a soon-to-be gaming company made by your fellow Dungeon Siege community members.

If you have any questions comments, or suggestions, please feel free to state them here.

The size of the voice files was not mentioned in Lone Knight's post re: Derelict, that is why I asked. Why do you mention DS2?
I assume dialup users will have to download the version without voices.

It will be significantly harder to predict how large the voice files will be. At the moment, we're still largely testing them out, as they are in .wav format. This format is much larger than .mp3. Comparing the voice content to another siegelet, like Ehb, for example, would get much different results, because there are now conversation trees for most characters, which require a lot of talking.

The main character will talk, and we will work on making it so the game can differenciate between a male and female, so we can use different voices to make sense. (It would be weird for you to play as a female and have a male voice). This isn't a major problem at the moment, so we haven't begun to think about how to solve this, yet. But, we have plenty of time, and if worst comes to worse we'll only allow a male player or female player, not give the option of both.

I promised some screenshots, so here they are. Most of them are scenic shots, as I don't want to spoil your appetites before the trailer.

Images of the Andorian Countryside.

Some shots of the Forests of Dolager.

Well finally some screenshots. Smile They are looking good, especially that third one.

Do you have narco onboard?

Looks very nice so far, LoneKnight.

So much pretty foliage...... It must take ages to place it all. :P

LoneKnight's picture

Yes, Narco is mapping. Foliage placement = :lightning:

I do not see where he gets the pacience. :?

What makes it sounds like a lot of fun to you?

It sounds like a siegelet that has it all. Cool

What makes ot sound like it has it all TAS?

is derelct going to be released in multiple languages?

LoneKnight's picture

Hello, everyone. I am back, for the time being.

Sad to see so many guests plaguing this thread, and perhaps, members under other names, which seems utterly pointless to me.

Nonetheless, to answer any questions, I haven't thought on Derelict in other languages. Right now, Derelict in English seems most important. If time and language skill allows, perhaps others will be released. And only if I am sure that it's crucial. I wouldn't record voices in other languages, I respect my voice actors too much to put them through that.

LoneKnight's picture

Okay, as for updates, Expect many barrages of all things Derelict, soon. Stuff is finally coming together, except for the mapping, that is. :P

Trailer is being worked on, but the slacking on the mapping field has rendered that...difficult. Music is superb, the best ever seen. Voices are mostly done; we still have some voices to record but that is primarily done. All of the conversion is done, so, non LoA players can enjoy LoA benefits.

Over 100 new spells made, new monsters and new nodes are done. New armor; check. Story; check and a half on that one. This is probably the most rich and compelling story for a siegelet. Ever. When Derelict is out, you might just play it for two days straight, and quit your day job just to play it more. We need some help from the community to get it done on time, but I grant that we can finish it to the maximum capacity that we dream of.

That quote is from the first post in this topic...

Looking at the weather it's already summer 2007.. Any news on the siegelet that was 'soon to be created' and would 'repair the scars that DS2 left'?

LoneKnight's picture

Yuppers, indeed. We're working to have a demo out within the next two months.

Ah that will be great. If we are really lucky it will be just in time for finals. Laughing out loud

volkan's picture

Sounds like a lot of hard work, and a lot of patience to get things done. Game promises to be very exciting though. Good luck and stick with it. :woot:

LoneKnight has told me a bit of what is to expected and I think this is one Siegelet you will like. There is a lot of work behind it, just like Volkan said.

Templarian Arch Sorcerer's picture

Indeed....it is coming along quite nicely and it should be unlike any other siegelet that you have seen. Wink

That is good to hear.

Site Owner of Siegecore a new Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 fansite.

Is this project still in development? Haven't heard a thing for some time now. Maybe I'll contact someone that is part of the team for this siegelet if I receive no answers.

The last time Lone Knight logged on to SiegeTheDay was about 9 weeks ago. Hopefully he's been spending his free time on the project... Smile

firebat's picture

Any news from this 'soon-to-be gaming company' about their siegelet that unlike any other siegelet i have seen before?

LoneKnight's picture

Glad to hear from Sharkull and Sol. Yes, the project is still in full swing. All that needs to be completed at this point is the mapping and a few character voices. Virtually everything else is done.

I do not frequent SiegeTheDay that often anymore because I became exasperated at the fact that it had few members who still modded, discussed little on Dungeon Siege in general, and several of the members who have not modded in a long time found the need to critisize me and my work when they do no work themselves to be a positive part of the community.

The scope of Derelict has not changed at all. We still plan on it being one of the largest and most professional siegelets ever done. The finished soundtrack has exactly 60 songs, there are hundreds of new spells, dozens of new monsters, summons, countless new nodes and objects, and tons of surprises that we got working with the DS engine that no one else has seen before. That, and the voice acting is quite superb.

I apologize for any critisizing here. My interest here waned when the interest here waned in Dungeon Siege - it seemed like the majority of the posting was done in the Off Topic. There's other forums that are quite active in Dungeon Siege modding, so I locate there now. It is not my intention to upset anyone for my reasons for absense, but I am just explaining why. I'm still quite loyal to the Dungeon Siege community, and I don't like GPG's direction that they took in making Space Siege, but the wheels turn their own direction.

On other news, I have purchased, played, and taken extensive notes on the lore that is within Dungeon Siege Broken World and Throne of Agony, and will compile everything into a complete history of the Dungeon Siege universe that I plan on releasing soon.

If you are curious about the time it has taken, just take into account that some of the other large siegelets such as Project Brittania, Ultima, Copperhead, etc, took years to create. Even with a team, everyone has real life to attend to. Derelict has been in production for about two years now, and considering the other projects I've been working on while managing, designing, and developing Derelict, I'm quite amazed at how fast this has formed. As for Beta's we will most likely release one a month or so before the final release. Releasing a Beta so long before the final release is tricky to say the least, considering how it would require focusing on the very beginning of the game while the crew is lately focusing on the climax of the game, which is incredibly difficult and vast in scope. Everything is mostly done, we just need to piece it all together...along with finishing the maps. One thing that also slows down the mapping, beyond the shortage of mappers, is that we are truely making a large land. There's not just a straight path that the player will follow; we're branching out, making places and quests for the type of gamers who like to explore the entire land. Indeed, that does take time, but I believe it will be worth it when we release.

Thanks for everyone's continued interest in Derelict. My only advice is to keep waiting and/or refer any free mappers to me to finish it faster.

Glad to hear the project is still in production. It will be good to experience a new map for DS1 once you guys are finished.

Maps? Typo?

Any chances of a "beta" release with a few regions to whet our appetite? Tease us a bit. Wink ^^

Any news on this? I was expecting something sooner after Loneknights last comment..
