Pawing on the keyboard

A blog!
Oh, I never have written one -- Could it be fun?
I have some time to burn. So I will burn it doing something different.

Maybe you want to know a bit about me?
Maybe.
Maybe I will not tell Smile
I am the reserved and cautious type. Never give personal info on the www is a good rule I respect.

I am the.gray.fox
Or Gray Fox. Or just fox. Call me in any of these ways.

Oh, and I am gray.
I guess it does not hurt to say I am no longer a 20 years old person.
But I will not be more precise than that.

Hm.
Have I finished the arguments already?
Sad...

Ah. I have learned english kind-of recently. I improve it, daily.
But I am still learning and refining it.
And you will notice I do not make use of the ' symbol.
I do not like it. That is all. Haha -- laugh if you want.
My hatred for the ' symbol is a strange thing. I do not even know where it comes from.
But it is there. A sort of repulsion for it. It is strange, is not it?

My hobbies include using the computer.
I also work with it. Though my job is not all-computer. There are other tasks I have to take care of. And the computer is an important tool. But only a tool.

My favorite computer-related hobby is programming.
It is food for the brain. It keeps it young and briliant.
Just as I am. -- oh, that was my ego talking (do yourself a favor and ignore him)

My favorite non-computer-related hobby is eating apple pies.
It is food for the stomach. It keeps it filled and happy.
Which in turn makes me think better. Which keeps me young and brilliant.
Just as I am. -- oh, that was my- ... NOT again! (ignore him, just ignore him)

Know what? Better change subject.
it does not change that I am young and brilliant. -- go away, will you??! At least shut up!
(ignore him, ignore him, ignore him, ignore him...)

So... as I was saying (or maybe not), there is this little fox with nothing better to do -- at the moment.
In my spare time, that is: when I have enough of it to sit for a while, I do sit for a while. And eat apple pies. Or program. Or play computer games.
Not that there is much else to do here, really.
This place is like a desert. Beautiful scenery. A bit wild (I will not show pictures, sorry). Definitely tranquil and relaxing.
Hm. Maybe too much. Good thing I have my computer and this connection to the www.

Oh. And there is a lovely woman who makes the apple pies I eat.
I would be lost without her.

Hm.
Since this is a website about a game, maybe I should talk about that game...
Dungeon Siege. 2.
I like it Smile
I discovered it recently, and I already like it.
And it is moddable. And modding makes you employ the brain.
So you see, I like DS2 for many a reason.
I like it too, me: young and brilliant. -- Ow, come on! Pretend you do not exist. Can you do that, thanks?

... ... .....

As I was saying, I like DS2. And I like the idea to mod it.
I have taken a quick look at its files.
The syntax used for skrit is not quite C++.
I seem to recognize it, though. At the very least it has something of the Objective C++ language syntax.
But I guess it is not all that important.

What _is_ important, is that the DS2 API is not documented.
The thing closest to documentation is the very existing code-base in the game, hoping the comments are accurate and up-to-date (but they never are), and also 2 text files: fubi.log and fex-1.1.txt
Which are from different games, too (fex being from DS1).

There is not even a built in skrit editor.
Not that I am the spoiled-kid type, but the very presence of a skrit editor tool would have encouraged more people to learn skrit.

I imagine that after 5 years we can safely assume that GPG is not going to release one -- ever?

Which is really bad. It made me wonder what it would be to have a skrit editor with class browser, syntax coloring and maybe an intellisense window too.

And I keep wondering, in fact. Because I do not have such a skrit editor.
Nor can I find one on the www.
But at least I have a smart class browser.
And I am working on sticking an edit window next to it, and give it syntax coloring.
And I plan to work on an intellisense thing, so I can just push the little . key and a cute window will tell me what class members I can choose from there.

And maybe when this will be finished I will release it.
And maybe I will start learning skrit too Smile
Or maybe someone will teach me, so I can cut the learning times.

But I should go in order.
So... hey, I am working on a skrit editor, with a class browser, syntax coloring and intellisense. And the class browser part is ready already.
And I am young and brilliant. -- yes... yes you are! But leave me alone!! (ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him ignore him)

Alright.
Time is up for today.
The www connection I use is costly. And I can stay online only for so much time per day, which is not all that much.
Which is why I do not play online games.

Bye!

-fox. and the young and brilliant -- noo ignore him!!!

You can find skritpad here:
http://www.dsabstraction.com/tools.htm

And there is a plug-in for eclipse... to be found here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/siegetools/

Edit:
Here's a better link for the plugin:

Wink

Oh!

Too bad. I was having my fun to code it.
I will give eclipse a good try. No point refusing.

I did try skritpad -- it does not work for me.
For some reason it keeps crashing.
Eventually it does not start anymore until I reboot.
And it does not save my customizations.
Close -> Open -> Default settings again.
Annoying, I must say.

Thank you for the info Smile
I imagine this blog will die, now.

So bad. My ego was self-inflating already...
go tell him he has no point anymore -- haha (I am in trouble)

You could always work on improving and updating the eclipse plugin. Smile
Or make a program that can find nodes that fit properly with node doors. Lacking this feature in SE2 made me quit mapping...
