Dawn of Aranna

Dungeon Siege II: Dawn of Aranna (DSII: DoA)
That's the name of the SUCCESSION OF BW.
A small group of german fans develope this project ... till now.
It will be a MMORPG, so there is a lot of work and we would be glad to see more mappers, modders and programmers.
The Alpha 1.0 already exists, but it's just a little map. There are still many bugs. But it's only an alpha version. To play the Alpha you must download these three files and put them into the "resources" file. After starting BW, it usually works.

All the nodes of DS, LoA, DSII and BW are being included.
All the items of DS, LoA, DSII and BW are planned to be included.
Many monsters of DS, LoA, DSII, BW shall be included.
Also new items, monsters and nodes will be created.
The terrain will only be limited to the players desire. It will not be limited by straight ways as known by the original DS maps.

Good to hear about a siegelet being made for BW... I don't know how much I'll be reading your project forums though because I don't speak german. :oops:

That may be true, but not even being able to read the forum names, let alone the topic titles, makes reading the forums slightly challenging. :P I think finding English threads may be possible, but it appears like a needle-in-a-haystack type task to me. Otherwise I'd certainly try to read what's going on...

You could always google translate the site so it is easier to navigate.

I use Free Translation Online to help me keep up with the project. (500 character limit for free translations though)

Plus you can set your preferences to English when you register.

That seems like a good translator but does it translate sites?
I can't find anywhere to enter an URL. I have been known to be blind.. ^^

This thread is getting a little off topic (from the discussion of the project), but being able to read the mod's official site is important so it's not completely irrelevant. Perhaps starting a thread pertaining to online site translators might be a good idea if there's more to discuss on that subject.

As for volkan's picture of the site's English option, that may help, but you'll notice that the first forum name isn't even translated (only the interface is). I only have so much time available for this type of stuff, and while I think I'd enjoy reading the forums, the language thing is something I don't have time to deal with right now.

The translation only does 500 characters at a time, so no site translation. Sad

Edit: FreeTranslation.com will do the entire site page. (But you have to enter each url separate) Sad

Edit again: You can upgrade to Platinum for $9.95 a year though and get the entire website translated as well as additional services.

The end of the second age

The reign of terror and the terrible chain of events coming from the Overmage began in the temple of the dark prince.
With the death of Valdis, the magic of the suspended souls was released and peace returned to Aranna and especially to the eastern regions of the land. However only for a brief moment.
After the destruction of the dark fortress all the peoples of the land hoped for a long and prosperous time of peace. The Plain of Tears was now said to be a place of dark powers and no one was allowed to enter. The ruins of the dark fortress were forbidden too and no scholar nor diplomats were permitted to enter the site. But the worst event has just recently occurred. The Elves call it “Turmanar” : the small island of Greilyn, home of the Dryads sank into the dark depths of the ocean.
A huge storm arose and crushed the small island underneath its waves and with it the city of Eirulan and most of its inhabitants.
The Dryads arose from the first age and were, like the Half-Giants, a fairly young race. Those who survived fled into to the main land and began a new life there. Other creatures followed the “green race” and also fled to the main land.

At that time nobody knew nor expected anything from the powerful Overmage. The only thing concerning many magicians of Arrana was that shortly before the death of Valdis a strange mage commanded the shield be destroyed after the sword clashed. He then disappeared with those pieces.
The ancient sword and the shield were never seen again and no one bothered looking for it in the ruins of the temple. The Overmage, so called in the common tongue, kept the pieces and formed a new weapon – the Sword staff.
It is unknown how the Overmage came to so much power even to resurrect himself as Zaramoth. - even until now.
Only one thing is certain : The origin lies in the city of the Cinbri, the ancient ruin near the Glorydeep mine. The gate chamber was the tomb of evil, grave of Zaramoth – and the city is still open and not sealed. The dwarves left the gate open to be sure that no new evil would arise from the tomb even after the death of the Overmage. The destruction of the city is uncertain. One thing is certain however. The portal room from which the dark army came was discovered and opened.
This portal shows the way to an unknown land – before that it led to the dark realm of the Cinbri but this connection no longer exists.
The Cinbri still exist not on Aranna but somewhere else...I do not believe Aranna is free even after a second Turmanar.
Something is still alive out there...and its not over yet !

Does that mean that the project is stopped before completion? What happened (all the comments in the video are in German, so I can't tell what they are communicating...)?

Yes, they stopped work on DoA because there were not enough people interested to keep it going. Plus at the end there were only three of us putting any time / effort into the project. Sad

I tried to translate the best I was able. Had to visit several different free translators. But, in a nutshell, the video says:

Translation is the best I could do with the free translators, and I don't want to put words where they don't belong. But you get the general idea. Smile

@Pheonix: I just wondered recently if you probably could translate parts from the DoA map as well?

Item labels surely could be skipped, but it would be cool if conversations and quest texts
would exist in english too - so this project would reach a wider popularity and finally get a higher chance of a revival.

As i have counted there are 5 conversations.gas files, all together ~30kb. Lorebook_info.gas and questbook_info.gas only contain some paragraphs in german. And more there isn't, at least i can't see anything essential else.
So it (just) would be required to translate these files and to put them into a separate mod (as i have seen, any tank priority >1 would be ok).
For somebody able to understand german and natively speaking english this should be possible within a a few hours, and tanking then should be no problem for you.

Or are you already a total WoW-junkie maybe, having no time left for nothing else!? Shock Wink

I tried to translate with the free translators, and it made no sense to me. I don't speak German at all and the free translators butcher any chance I have of being able to understand most anything. Sad

If you want to translate, I might then be able to clean up the conversations and edit them into proper English grammar though.

LOL. I just need the escapism from my daily routine. I deal with people 30-60 years old who have addiction problems from the time I wake up till the time I go to sleep. 3 years ago one of them got kicked out of the program for smoking Crack Cocaine in the facility, and came back with a vengeance (and A machete). :jawdrop: ^^

Recently started working on fine-tuning some minor bugs in this mod and then realized I was not working from the final release. If anyone can get me the final version or a link to it, I would be most grateful. Smile

@PhoeniX: It seems DoA is not really dead, it's just hibernating and the whole stuff has concentrated
on Belagerer who still is carrying on the project, and he told me that the current state is much more
advanced compared to the former public releases.

The mod seems to not be working for me, When I start the game (and try to play) The game crashes. It doesn't give me an error message either. Help please?

I just wanted to THANK YOU ALL OF YOU! YOU ARE AWESOME! YOU ARE LEGEND!

I play Dungeon Siege 1, LoA, 2 and Broken World since their respective releases and am really really glad and happy that you guys still support this game, that you keep the great and fantastic mods up to date and available, and continue your work on this lovely, legendary game... Too sad there was never a sequel with the same party monster bashing hacking mechanics.

Just now I found (some kind of) an FPS fix for Broken World on Windows 10 even with a moder grafics card (1060GTX, Broken World was down to 17-22fps), for your interest it was by accident that I uninstalled my nvidia grafics driver and ran on the windows basic driver, and *oh wonder* Broken World runs again in full screen with cursor and smooth 60fps Smile

Thanks again all of you and please go on with your great work! Maybe you can leave some hints for the still active steam players, that these forums exist, there are still many many players I am sure who would love to see Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World with all of its mods up and running.
