Dark Wizard Robe in DS1

volkan's picture

Getting back to modding DS1/LOA again for a bit. Made a new robe from the Dark Wizards in DS2. Don't know how to make the inventory icons the correct way so I have to piece it together from the texture like a jigsaw puzzle. Smile

Suggestion for making an inventory icon: use the appearance of how the item looks when sitting on the ground. Drop it somewhere and then take a screenshot looking directly down on it, then edit. I find it easiest to do in SE/SE2, on a node that is a solid colour not included in the item. That way you can use an image editor's "colour to selection" / "colour to alpha" feature and avoid having to trim the edges manually.

I have done that in the past but, I don't like the way armor looks on the ground. The jigsaw puzzle makes it look better. I think I remember reading a tutorial a long time ago about Siege Max creating inventory icons. Will have to go back through SU and see what makes more sense to me now that I am getting better at coding.

Load the texture onto the model in Siege Max and then launch the animation viewer. The character comes up in the same pose as in gmax, so if you want the arms down, just pivot them before you launch. Point the camera at the model from the front and capture the view with "Alt+Print Screen" to the clipboard. Crop the right piece in your image tool, paint the background out with a solid color, and make that the transparent color. The background color can also be set in the Animation viewer, so all you need to paint out is the head/arms/lower body that you don't want included.

You can move the light around in the viewer to get shading on the icon this way.

That is a very nice robe, Volkan.
Great idea to bring it into DS1.
