Site Issues

Sharkull's picture

Since there isn't already a topic for this, I thought I'd start one... Wink

The server time seems to be off an hour or two. In order to get the time correct for me I have to set it for GMT-7, but I'm actually in the Eastern Time Zone (GMT-5). A one hour difference could be explained by DST, but two hours implies a problem...

The board is set to go by GMT, but I will change that soon. I suppose it will be one of the US time zones since that is where most members are from.

The server time is currently set to GMT-5 but I will be shifting it to GMT flat. Hopefully this will solve phpBB's issue with getting the time correct. Sharkull's statement is true. He must currently set his time to GMT-7 to get the time correct for the Eastern Time zone. I am working on this issue now.

Issue should be corrected now.

Did you do that JUST AS I put my response to the Q&A thing in? Well, now, that's funny. Is there a way to delete our posts on this version of SiThDa?

Sharkull's picture

It looks like the change was being done when Gene was posting in the Q&A thread because that one post's date/time is off by a full day.

JD,
It appears as though the StD function has been preserved, in that you can delete your own post if it is the last one in a thread (untested, but the button is there). Since I posted after you, you won't be able to delete yours...

Sharkull's picture

FYI.

I know that a lot of work has yet to be done with the site, but here's another small issue.

When I do a "View posts since last visit" query, I'm getting search results from the hidden "Moderator Discussion" forum. When I click the link, the resulting page is basically blank ("The topic or post you requested does not exist"), but I don't think the search is filtering these results out as it should.
Wink

Thanks, will look into it.

Edit: Should be fixed now.

..unfortunately UNFORTUNEATELY (one two many e's..)
Laughing out loud

What, still spelled wrong? Laughing out loud

I need to read more books in english, my spelling is getting worse. ^^
Let me know if you find any more typos. Smile

I'm trying to change my av, I deleted this image and updated, and then uploaded my new image and updated- and it changed itself back to this image. Any ideas?

I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down

Sharkull's picture

I see this marching character as your avy now, which is different than the one you had previously (shooting the red x...). Are you saying you are trying to change it again, or is this the new image you want?

If this is the one you wanted then it's probably just a browser cache thing (heard it mentioned on another Drupal site... the GPGarage) where you just have to clear your cache (should happen automatically after a short wait).

Nice avatar, but... the rules. Animated.. argh.. *falls over from verbal constipation* Wink

Ok it's not that bad but animated avatars are not allowed.

Loup_Ombrage's picture

Really? I wasn't aware of that
And thats odd, I've never had to clear my cache after anything like that before...

EDIT: Heeeeee's back! Go the Worgs!

I notice that the IE7 tab system is now working OK for links..
- just hit the middle button on your mouse..
- or right click and use the "open in a new tab" option..
- it works for thumbnail screenie links, too..
- well done, guys!! Smile

That is microsoft's doing. Likely they fixed a few things. Firefox 2 is still shaky on a few things as well.

..well sol, it certainly has improved this elf's browsing experience!! :woot:

PS. could you post up some hints on the use of cookies..
- maybe in the help section, perhaps?
- pffft!! :huge_grin_hiding_behind_hand:

- heh, heh! Smile

What did you have in mind? Don't think I have any hints, other than that the cookie should be set for the full url with the "www"-part.

Haha, was that last thing a smilie request? Smile

- Yes.. is there a particular selection or a preferred location
..does one add the wee beasties via attachment, or what?

- I guess I just miss the mad crew that used to live among us.. :chuckle:

Cookies should be handled automatically by your browser according to your Privacy settings... the only time you really need to be concerned with them is when there are problems (like if you're having login problems here...).

And there were a bunch of the old smilies added and a couple new ones. There is a link to BBCode tags help when writing a new post, and the emoticon code listing is at the bottom of that linked page.
 :catch:

If there is a particular favorite smilie which has not been re-added, just let me / us know which one(s). Smile

I was wondering recently why this site loads so slow when coming here afer some days...
...then i accidentally have found the background image of over 400kB in the cache!?

Would you check please if it could be resized or replaced by a smaller one like the appended one of 80kb?

.

Damn - error, image too big to be attached (one reason more to make it smaller ;)).
Well try this instead: bg.jpg

Plus I just got this error message while logging out.

Might be the re-formatting of site or extra uploads this month as well.

I thought I had replaced that image.. it is taken care of now.

The exceeded cpu quota will happen once in a while since this site is pretty cpu intense.
There is a solution that will help a little though.

Glad it is not a real problem as I love the layout of this site. Cool

Sharkull's picture

Yeah, I've had the CPU warning 2-3 times over the last year or so... therefore it's not necessarily directly related to recent changes.
Stare

The right side bar shows recent additions to existing topics, blogs etc. but doesn't appear to get notified for the original post that starts one. I never notice a new topic until there's at least one response - is that just coincidence or is the software working that way?

New forum topics appear in the "Active forum topics" box, but of course only if they haven't been pushed back by other already posted threads that are active.. The reason it works like that is because of the software.
All comments are bound to a certain node, which can be the first post in a forum topic, a blog post or even an image. You can use the recent posts function if you want to make sure you are not missing new content.

Edit: Nevermind the "active forum topics" box. There is now a "new forum topics" box.

I think there might be a display bug...? (I'm using IE7). When I visit the home page, the "Recent Comments" list (and all the rest of the lists on the right side menus) don't display properly. If I scroll down and back, I get a patchy display of the lists (slices of words). This image shows an example of what I see once I scroll down and back up again:

I thought it might just be my machine, but perhaps not...? Anyone else see something like this?

I've seen that rendering bug before. If you resize your browser window it should look normal again.
I think it is a problem with updating the rendering of the css. I've seen it on the linux version of firefox as well when I used position: fixed; The thing is I removed that and only use selectors that work in all browsers.. or so I thought. Maybe it has appeared with an IE7 update?

Sometimes when I log out I am greeted with this message:

When I reload page I am still logged in. I try to post a comment, and it says I'm logged out, so I'm going through the "anonymous" posting to make this comment.
