DS3 in the works?

Read the latest review from the collected news.

I was actually again disappointed in how many new extra features just passed the author by, but it is to be expected of course.

However the author did write something interesting:

Quote:
As an expansion, Dungeon Siege II: Broken World doesn’t bring much to the story, and in thinking, probably shouldn’t, as the third is apparently in the works. Its content, side missions, new race and classes all add to the decent mix, but overall you’ll be aching for a proper sequel.
(bold added)
I haven't been at the Garage for a while but has this been confirmed or is the author going by some rumor?

I would like to know on what he's basing that statement on, but for now I will take it as something that is not true..

All I've read about at the Garage is that there are new projects (more than one?) in the works (hinting that the DS team is onto something new), but nothing specific. If I find the reference I'll post a link.

Im concidering it speculation for the moment, however, if they do come out with DS3, i may wait first to see what others think.

As I suspected then.

I remember it being hinted in a GPG chat that more juice can be be squeezed from the engine so I wouldn't be surprised if it is on their agenda, or even being worked on right now.

But for now it is merely a rumor then as far as I am concerned.

Let's pray that if a DS3 is made, GPG learns from the mistakes made in DSII and makes DSIII memoriable. God, I'd love a good DSIII.

Don't forget the movie of DS, that will also factor into whether or not to continue the game.

Mmm.. particularly the way using mods works. That CRC check is best left out, not that it is really hindering me but still. And characters should not be saved as binaries.

Sharkull's picture

Actually, I think the CRC stuff should be optional... so people who want to play online without greifers can do so (remember how many people wined about this in DS1?). People who don't want the CRC should be able to easily turn it off (but non-CRC players couldn't enter CRC-only MP games...). That's the way it SHOULD work... IMO. Smile

They also need a better MP matchmaking service lobby interface. Having to connect to someone's hosted game before entering chat is simply insane. There should be in-game chat areas where you can find like minded players before creating a game (reference battle.net). This is where GPG really screwed up DS2's longevity (in addition to the linear map design not being MP friendly). It's hard to build a community when there are no big MP numbers.

Yes you are right about the CRC, two exe:s would be good.

And about the map, there really is enough talent in the community still to make one if just the motivation was there.

Sounds like Diablo 2, with open and closed battle net.. (Where at closed battle net the characters were stored at the server and could not be edited..)

Sharkull's picture

Close... battle.net also hosts the closed games on their servers, and that would likely be a significant engine re-write for GPG to make a secure dedicated server component for DS3 (something I'd welcome, but do not expect).

Otherwise, yes... it's hard to argue with a winning format. Smile

DS2 already has that feature where you store your characters online. But to have the games run on a dedicated server as well sounds very nice.

Good call on the CRC idea, Shark. I totally agree with it. Satisfies everyone.

Maybe if GPG hosted mod-making-contests or online PVP contests for the community. That would be what I'd like to see. A dedicated server would be nice, too, no doubt.

Odds are there will be a ds3. 2k Games wouldn't buy a license just for an expansion and psp version. As for the movie... as if anyone takes uwe seriously: they can easily ignore the movie

Hehe. That movie will hit us soon. Smile

I have not seen one commercial for the movie yet, so I am quite doubtful of a 12/3 release date in the theatres. IMBd just says 2007 for the movie, though they do say the movie is completed. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460780/

If the movie is out in 3 weeks I really expect commercials on tv to kick in, they showed lots of them for the other Uwe films that did squat at the box office.

Found this amongst the site feeds. It says December 1st.. And just noticed that it says part 2..

Oh well. Computer and videogames posted an interview with Chris Taylor about Supreme Commander. (thanks for the heads up Firebat)

This caught my eyes:

Plus, we've also got what we call GPGnet, which is our matchmaker - so you can get a rating when you play, get matched against other players with a similar rating, create clans, compete in ladders, have chat and friends lists.
Seems like they might offer a better service for multiplayer games if and when DS3 is released.

Hmm...it will be interesting to see how these events turn out. Keep up the info of a possible DS3 if you see it.

The Dungeon Siege movie has been delayed to summer 2007 and will now only be one movie, instead of two parts like originally intended.

I though this was vital information. Smile

Oh, very vital. Goodness me, how am I ever to wait? *sigggghhh*
