Shield Thing

I've been playing around with making yet another shield mod. It's a shame that templates give me a headache, boohoo Sad

I'm not crazy about this peach colored one.

Does this look like a pizza box to you guys?

Oh look, gigantic flowers.

Any weapon scaling ideas?

I like the shields Kathy even the one that looks like a pizza box. You should make one that also looks like a pizza. That way if your on a really long quest and get hungry you could eat your shield. I still use your Halloween Shields when ever I get time to play.

Elf

In that last image you posted Kathy what is the name of that rib tickler she's wielding, I would have called the heroine by name but you must have thought she wasn't important enough to give her a name, my heroine Suki is not impressed with you. Sad Sad

I was thinking curving the shield slightly would make it look better.

A bit like this guy's shield:

Moros, my girls always have names, I just don't normally play with the labels on. But gracious me, if Suki doesn't think much of that, then perhaps she will like this better...

The weapon is a steel halberd from the "Siege of the three Kingdoms" weapon pack 2. Thrsnothingleft is the author of the mod and also of a third weapon mod containing the items from the earlier ones, plus some new models. I will have to hunt around for weapon pack three, everything is a bit disorganized right now. Okay, "right now" actually means "always" but meh. A queen bee doesn't bother herself with mundane things such as organization.

A poleaxe for whacking insolent folk:

Dulac, I like the shield you posted . The problem is I don't do any 3D modeling and I don't know off hand if DS has a shield model like that. I can make an illusion of the curve, but it might not look right in the game. I will have to give it a try later.

Lili, thanks. I will have to make a real pizza box shield. Mmmm pizza...

A few more shields:

Just as a quick note, most of the textures I used were made by me. I also used some public domain images, such as the dragon.

Dragon remix

"Sniff sniff", Suki doesn't think much of your massive weapons kathy, infact she says only scaredy little girlies use them things. Tongue
She likes to get up close and personal with her enemies you know, oh yeah and if they've got bad breath they're in for a whole lot of pain I can tell you. Wink
Now back to the large weapons, do they come with their own bounding spheres or are they taken from a 2 handed weapon, (I think that's the technical term for them although I could be wrong again) who hooo listen to Mr Moros trying to sound all intelligent and all that, wonders will never cease.

Final words kathy,
Suki says computer generated lives matter, and she also sends a thumbs up for Arial and the dragon shield. Big smile

Frankly, I really don't know a whole lot about the technical details of the mod. I know that the long weapons do inflict area of affect damage, which comes in handy. Wink I've attached the mod to this post, if you want to check it out.

In the final version of the mod, the author also adds critical damage into the weapons template, but I need to find that mod so I can get more information. I've also been wanting to work on some of the weapon icons, as many don't have an alpha channel and look kind of weird in the inventory.

The mod also includes shorter range weapons; perhaps more to Suki's liking?

Chakram

Bilbo's sword, Sting.

LoL, I wondered if you would notice that when I cropped that particular image. I had taken the screenshots after reading Suki's stern words. Arial was definitely pleased to be noticed, but she's a shy sort who prefers simple activities such as beheading Krug. And of course[=green[/color]farming!

Insane

As you might have gathered win 10 went funny on me, you've got an interesting assortment of weapons in your collection there Kathy but the girls are now demanding some new hairdos instead of weapons so I'm going to take them back to the mod shop and give them a makeover, at least I'll have some peace and quiet while they're in there. Big smile

The ladies giving you a hard time? Tongue You might like this mod, not sure. It is a spin off of the FG ribbons that were made by OC for DS Revived.

Oh, I was thinking it was a custom model.

Kathy I seem to have a .dsres creation problem in win 10, I have 2 tankcreators but they don't work anymore in win 10, so my question is this, are you running win 10 and can you make a dsres file, if you are, and you can, how do you do it. Three questions in one sentence kathy, I'm getting much better at this malarkey. Tongue
Any help would be much appreciated kathy, Smile I do have a win 7 laptop somewhere but I haven't unpacked everything yet since I moved and I just don't fancy going through it all looking for that thing until I have to.

Hi Moros:

I am running win 10 and I have been using tankcreator2 and can make dsres files fine. As you know, I make lots of mistakes when I am modding since I'm a colossal dunce so I've been tanking and retanking this particular shield mod repeatedly over the last several days. The program continues to work well. BTW, what version of Tankcreator are you using?

So what happens when you try to use your tankcreator? Does it refuse to start or does it start up but you can't complete the process?
I have my tankcreator and my other modding tools in a dedicated directory and folder. Did you perhaps move the programs?

Tankcreator2 got a bit tricksy with me the other day and saved the file in my documents and I simply could not see the stupid thing. I retanked the mod and directed the output to my desktop. No problem then.

I'm also curious about your display settings. I have text and apps scaled at 125%. I remember a long time ago when I had gotten a computer with Vista and tank creator would load, but it was like I couldn't see the entire program. I believe it was ghastley who suggested I change the scaling. I reduced it and the program worked.

I can't think of much more. I've attached the tankcreator2 I use to this post. I hope something helps.

So to mosey back to what I wrote about how I make lots of modding errors...well, I'm not sure that Ribbons mod I attached in my last post will work. I have only used the mod with the DS and DSLoA version of Dungeon Siege Revived or the Cutie girl mod by Phoenix and DDlullu, which includes content from Revived. If, by any chance, you or anybody else downloaded Ribbons, just toss it in the trash.

Just to be clear the tankcretor I just uploaded works with DS1, DSLoA and Dungeon Siege 2. I'm sure you know that already but just to be on the safe side.

I have no real issues with tank creator 2. But there are things to remember. Make sure you select what kind of tank you wish to create. My copy defaults to Dungeon Siege 1 and I have to make sure to select Dungeon Siege II if I am working with Dungeon Siege II. I also have to disable my anti-virus program because it thinks the created tank is a virus or some such. Once tanked I can turn on my anti-virus again. This is true on both my windows 10 and windows 7 systems.

Hi kathy and bare_elf:

I'm using the one that bare_elf uses but I've also tried your version as well without success.
My system
Win 10 pro 1909 Os build 18363.752, Display is widescreen 1920\1200.

DS_Tankviewer_102 is the main directory, TankCreator and everything related to modding DS is inside the DS_Tankviewer_102 and they're all inside their own dedicated directories, no screw ups that way kathy.
The Tankcreator loads but the create tab is half missing and there is no browse function either, every tab I can see works but Tankcreator will not create a .dsres, I played around with the scaling for the program but nothing would get it to change much.

Anyway I copied the DS_Tankviewer_102 and slapped it on my win 7 pro laptop, both systems have the same user name so there was no chance of a screw up there, yep you guessed right, it worked first time, as I knew it would do.

One of these is causing the problem.
Win 10 Pro itself, 6\4 favourite me thinks, the Os build 18363.752 15\8 second favourite or an outsiders bet would be the widescreen monitor and related drivers 66\1.

How did you reduce the scaling on the Tankcreator kathy as I can't find nothing that relates to reducing it in the Tankcreator properties.

I just might have the answer for you for that little problem kathy but getting it to work is a hit and miss affair, most of your games should work ok with this but small 3rd party apps is where the hit and miss comes into play. I'm surprised that your DS is working as I had to do this for half a dozen games that use the documents folder to save their games, oh yeah and one of the apps that didn't work was DS2 All Saves.

The problem was Microsoft KB4541335
Depending on which version of Win10 you are running, there was a recent Windows 10 update I installed that added Ransomware Protection to lock down your "Documents"/"My Documents" from being unintentionally changed.
Go to Settings then Update & Security then Windows Security then Virus & Threat protection then scroll down to the Ransomware protection, select Manage ransomware protection, "Controlled folder access" might be the culprit as it was in my case. If its turned off turn it on and select "Allow an app through Controlled folder access" the next screen gives you a "+ Add an allowed app" select that box and then "Browse all apps" select DSLOA - Shortcut, your game might be Dungeon Siege so select that instead and voila your games should work just like mine are doing.

Hi Kathy,
I don't know what setting I changed over the last couple of days to cause so much trouble but something drastic needed to be done as nothing I was doing was fixing it, so I decided to do a system restore just to see if it would fix things, anyway the system restore was successful and Tankcreator is now up and running and making .dsres files, I recently joined this site https://www.tenforums.com/ so I'm going to be reading some much needed tutorials that they have on the site.

Thankyou Kathy and bare_elf, without your input about the Tankcreator working on your systems I would still have been tinkering about with it.

ps, That Ransomware Protection fix in my other post works perfectly, I'm going to fire DS2 up now as I've been reading on the net that Microsoft have screwed up the mouse function on the main DS2 screen.

Hey Moros,

I'm glad things are working for you again. Cheer

bare_elf and I both use the same version of Tankcreator, so if I ever want to mod DS2 I can do that with the same program. I don't foresee that happening any time soon, but one never knows...

Completely unrelated, but do you know how much tea here in the US sucks?!! My ex-husband is from Ireland and his mum used to send us boxes of tea fairly often, but, hmmm... that well has run dry. So to speak. Tongue

Just a random observation because I like tea on my headache days and I had a nassstttyyy one yesterday.

Kathy you need to check out the site Teadog. They have tea from around the world including teas from Ireland. I would guess if his mother sent you the tea it was from the company Lyons. If not there are also 20 other Irish tea company on the site. They ship world wind.
Smile

I would think with a name like that they would ship Tea not wind Tongue

Here in the UK we're famous for our tea drinking abilities and also for the amount of alcohol we consume as well, I'm not a tea drinker myself but even I have a box of Typhoo tea in one of the kitchen cupboards, £5.49p = $6.83 for a box of 300 tea bags. You can pay a lot more for the top notch brands but you're only paying extra for the name and not for the quality of the tea.

I still have that scaling issue with my Tankcreator, some of the create tab is missing and the browse tabs are non-existent, whatever I try doesn't work so in the words of a WWII soldier its "FUBAR", if anyone has any ideas of how to solve this problem I'll buy you a box of tea and throw some biscuits in as well.

Thanks for the link, lili. We used to get Lyons occasionally, but mostly Barry's tea. I bookmarked the teadog site.

Moros, you could try scaling. With win 10, if you go to "settings" and then "ease of access" you should see "display" with scaling options. Under there it should say something like "Make everything bigger" and then you can choose the size of apps and text on the main display. I have mine set to 125% and my tankcreator works with that. Try monkeying about (like the monkey in your tea advert Wink ) with the different settings. Maybe making the app scaling smaller might help.

I find "app" to be a loathsome word, because reasons. I really get pissed off when the spelling of a word is changed to make it whatever, more efficient or something. Like doughnut is the correct spelling for a particular fried breakfast pastry NOT donut. A doughnut is made from dough, what the f is a donut supposed to be made of, do? Ah, I bitch and complain, but it's all from love. No, seriously.

Insane

The first known printed use of donut was in Peck's Bad Boy and his Pa by George W. Peck, published in 1900, in which a character is quoted as saying, "Pa said he guessed he hadn't got much appetite, and he would just drink a cup of coffee and eat a donut."[23] According to John T. Edge (Donuts, an American passion 2006) the alternative spelling "donut" was invented when the New York–based Display Doughnut Machine Corporation abbreviated the word to make it more pronounceable by the foreigners they hoped would buy their automated doughnut making equipment.[24][25] The donut spelling also showed up in a Los Angeles Times article dated August 10, 1929 in which Bailey Millard jokingly complains about the decline of spelling, and that he "can't swallow the 'wel-dun donut' nor the ever so 'gud bred'."
In Austria, doughnut equivalents are called Krapfen. They are especially popular during Carneval season (Fasching), and do not have the typical ring shape, but instead are solid and usually filled with apricot jam (traditional) or vanilla cream (Vanillekrapfen).[65] A second variant, called Bauernkrapfen, probably more similar to doughnuts, are made of yeast dough, and have a thick outside ring, but are very thin in the middle.[66]
So although Donut is a marketing abbreviation it sounds more eatable than a Karpen. So enjoy your doughnuts, donuts and Krapfens with a good cup of Irish Tea or Scottish Coffee. My coffee is mostly single malt Smile
Enough research for now...good night Elf

I'm assuming krapfens must taste better than a Kraken. Calimari anyone?

I guess I'm just an old fashioned girl then. Smile
