Kane's Content Mod
version 1.0
Purpose:
The intent of this mod was to unlock things that are already in the game but either weren't being used or were of limited use. I wanted to make sure that the mod affected joins as little as possible also. That's why I didn't create items and instead made minor changes to existing ones. Since the original mod, it's been expanded to include some other changes as you'll see below.
Changes:
Most items that have been changed start with an '*'.
AI: (sorry this is currently disabled due to a bug)
Increases attack speed/range when char specializes in a particular skill. In other words, attack speed/range increase for an archer but once he starts going melee the speed/range will slowly return to normal.
Content:
Most items in the game can now drop with mods. There are a lot of items in the game that are set not to drop (like the ever-popular Helm of Three Storms.) With this mod they can drop and in most cases drop with mods.
Added more/better mods to the brimmed hat. Petty, I know but I like this hat.
Almost all monsters will drop their spell books. I also changed the icon for mob spells and added the spell name so it shows up properly in inventory.
All of the changed content can be used in other games
Characters:
Enables 1.5x walk speed
Reduced ghost time to 20 seconds
Unlocks virtually every skin in the game... everyone I could find anyway. It is kind of complicated to find a skin but if you flip through them long enough (there are a LOT) you'll find animated skins, invisible skins & lots of other cool skins. This mod must be on to select the skin but after that, they'll work in any game you host or join with or without the mod.
Starts out with a little more gold (1000 GP)
Vendors:
Although most vendors have been changed, I'm in the process of doing some updates. Only the updated vendors start with an '*'
Expanded the number and variety of items in vendors inventories. Works best when used with an expanded vendor window mod.
Vendors may carry rare & unique items. Still needs a little work... unique weapons rarely show up.
Many magic vendors can sell rings and amulets. They also have a better spell book collection.
Hiroth Blacksmiths will sell most quest related items.
Spells:
Buff spells will now last longer at higher levels. Length of buff is based on magic level.
Summon lengths have also been increase based on similar formulae.
Other
Adds a ton of start positions to the game... some useful & some just for fun.
Installation & Usage:
How do I install this?
Put the resource file (.dsres) file into your Dungeon Siege resources folder.
This file is usually located at "c:\program files\microsoft games\dungeon siege\resources\"
Do I have to host for this to work?
You must either host or the host must be using the same mod for all aspects of it to function properly.
This mod should not affect your ability to join other games.
How do I uninstall?
Either remove this from your resources directory
or rename the extension from .dsres to .off
or go get a mod manager like Watersoul's located at Dungeon Siege 'Net Guide
Will this conflict with other mods?
Possibly... good answer huh?
When two mods alter the same thing, one of them will win out. In most cases, it's the more recent mod that will win.
This mod alters the hero files, NPC vendor files, some items and some spells.
Version History:
5/01/03 - Initial beta release... only a few testers.
5/15/03 - Removed the AI changes. I'll work on this when I have time.
5/27/03 - Added more skins and removed from beta.
Notes:
All of these mods were done by studying how other people made theirs. I can't remember all of the mods I looked at as there were literally hundreds but there's probably a little of DSX, Meph's Magi, Character+ and a few others in here. I recoded pretty much everything but I did base a lot of it on some of these mods. If you are interested in mod making the folks in the forums of Siege Network and Game-Editing.net have been immensely helpful.
