Loot changed because of a mod?

I have started a new game with a girl, I had the nude mod "x_skins.dsres" since long ago, and still working. The think is that at the end of Wesrin Cross, I had 5 'epic' drops (those violet), but 2 are the same pair of boots, and 3 others are nude icon with absurd requirements (25 intelligence, and others with 30 strength), I've edited the savegame with the Ultimate Power Leveler, to test those items, and are pure garbage, but with nude skins (like rags).

I think the x_skins.dsres changed also the loot. Or may be another mod? Those are which I have installed:

-Legends of Aranna (downloaded from I don't remember where, and dropped to the game folder).
-x_skins.dsres
-Dungeon Siege - High Resolution Textures

And those are all for now.

I have an additional question for a nude mod: Is there only a naked mod without unwanted "extras" like loot changers? I've tested also LoA CutieGirl Revived v2, and makes even more changes.

I am not sure exactly what might be causing your problems, however mods like x-skins, Cutie Girl and almost all armor mods and weapon mods do modify Strength, intelligence and dexterity. The requirements you listed above are not absurd requirements, unless the benefits of the armor are minimum. When I make a armor or weapon mod I do it in such a way that the items are progressive. where the more strength, intelligence, and dexterity you have the more powerful the item is. X-skins and cutie girl do not do this so you may get an item that is not currently useful.
It would be somewhat helpful if I knew the following about your system set up.
Where exactly is Legends of Aranna installed. The DSLOA folder should be located in the same top level Directory as MAPS and Resources.
What version of Windows are you running?
What version and revision of Dungeon Siege is installed? It should be 1.11.1 at a minimum.
Are you running any other mods?

Let me know and I will attempt to help Elf

One items needs 25 int, other 30 str, at the end of Wesrin Cross, when my main character is 13 str, and my mage 12 int... those items has absurd requirements for that stage of the game, and also they aren't too powerful, so don't worth to carry them till 30 str, cause I will be using much better things. And my fear is if those “bad designed” items will be replacing the “violet” drop, the entire game, so I will be missing good useful items, for those bad designed ones. And those items are for sure not vanilla, they have nude icons, and again, absurd requirements for that level, obviously from a mod, the only I have related to that is X-skins.

My set up is the following:

- DSLOA folder is where you said: in the same main directory as Maps and Resources.
- Windows 10 Pro x64. 16GB. I5-7400. GTX1080. And games are installed in SSD.
- Dungeon Siege is 1.11.1 (GOG version).

The list of mods is only what I’ve said.

Legends of Aranna is not on the market, so I’ve obtained it from somewhere, I think from and old Setam post, and dropped the files and folders to the installation directory, replacing all when asking.

Another thing is that I’ve been in a previous gameplay (using the same installation) with a male character, even with X-skins in the Resources folder, but obviously not affecting the character, and I also had those 3 violet items rewards (from the big spider at the end of the dungeon, and the same special chest after the elevator). And they are useful things (a mace, and two wizard hats with 13 int requirement).

Also, when I remove X-skins, I can still playing with the male, but not with the female (game crashes), surely because the girl is using that mod, when the male is not.

GoG seems to have decided to se how to mess things up that @#$#%$#@steam(I hate steam) missed. Mods that work fine with the disk set do not seam to always work right as they did some things that affect priorities and and may have changed some of the base files like the .dll so try with mods WITHOUT the LoA folder

Dwarf

Still the issue that those replacements are in the game. Even if they wouldn't occur without LoA, they will occur sooner or later, and that is what I don't want.

There isn't any nude mods which only have the skin replacement, right?

UPDATE: Found the thread in which I've downloaded Legends of Aranna, maybe you knew it cause it is from 2017.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1148174213

Seems that it fixes some things on the game, even when not playing LoA campaign.

Legends of Aranna is not on the market: wrong.
You can find this game (english) in Amazon.ca (Canada) and/or ebay.com (just find 42 - ship from US).
Best advice: forget Steam and GOG. Just play with your own game (from CD)

- This site have a lot of Mods
- Here a site with a lot of mods: http://ds.gemsite.org/web/index.php/download
- Try mod(s) one by one until you find mods perfect for you ...

Note: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1148174213 = It's only for Steam, not good for GOG Dungeon Siege (but not sure at 100%)!

I agree with Vamren that many of the equip requirements for the X-skins armor aren't very realistic. Besides the fact they are out of sync with the way the game characters build attributes according to Formulas.gas. I think the mod author assigned requirements pretty randomly. This item is clearly for an archer, but the strength requirement is way too high.

[t:template,n:prita_skin_18]
{
	doc = "Amazone Ranger Outfit";
	specializes = base_body_armor_prita_skin;
	[common]
	{
		pcontent_special_type = rare, unique, normal;
		screen_name = "Amazone's Ranger Outfit";
	}
	[defend]
	{
		armor_style = prita_skin20;
		armor_type = a1;
	  f defense = 45.000000;
	}
	[gui]
	{
		equip_requirements = dexterity:20;
		equip_requirements = strength:24;\\ really?
		inventory_height = 3;
		inventory_icon = b_gui_ig_i_a_pos_a1_prita;

Meanwhile, a regular Dungeon Siege bow requires a similar amount of dexterity and has the following equip requirements:

[t:template,n:bw_g_c_c_l_r_avg]
{
	category_name = "weapon";
	doc = "Long Recurve";
	specializes = base_bow;
	[aspect]
	{
		model = m_w_bow_028;
	}
	[attack]
	{
		attack_range = 13;
	  f damage_max = 99.000000;
	  f damage_min = 81.000000;
		reload_delay = 0.3;
	}
	[common]
	{
		screen_name = "Long Recurve";
	}
	[gui]
	{
		active_icon = b_gui_ig_i_ic_bow_002;
		equip_requirements = strength:15,dexterity:24;\\ These attributes are much more reasonable.
		inventory_height = 4;
		inventory_icon = b_gui_ig_i_w_bow_072;
		inventory_width = 1;

Anyway, I don't want to be too harsh. X-Skins is an old mod, and it's easy to look back on something created 20 years ago and pick at it.

Vamren wrote:

Vamrem, one thing to keep in mind is if you take out the modded armor from X-Skins and just leave the nude skin, you will have a female character that is nude at character creation...

You can go for the no body armor look:

but since the nude part is the character's base skin, she will become "clothed" once you equip any armor.

The armor templates for X-Skins can be re-written as long as proper credit is given to the mod's author. I have a few other ideas about how to help, but frankly it's almost 4AM and I'm tired. Tired More later.

PS Welcome to Siege the Day Smile

PPS Ulyss is correct about the game being availabe, I found some copies of DS/LoA at the USA Amazon as well as the sites he mentioned.

FORGET ANYTHING FROM STEAM OR GOG WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT DUNGEON SIEGE 1 OR DSLOA
Both New and used copies of Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege Legends of Aranna are on line. In the space of 5 minutes I found copies on Amazon, Game Stop, Ebay, Etsy and half a dozen other Sites.
About a year ago I found a gold addition 1 DVD set that contains both DS1 and DSLoA It automatically installs both games with product identification numbers. Then updates the games with all patches. Then you remove the DVD and store it in a safe place because the game is patched to boot without CD or DVD in the drive.
Elf

About those copies of the game on Amazon and other sites, I have those versions, they are designed for Win XP and I'm afraid it could be problematic. GOG version of old games are adapted to current OS, this DS works excellent, even with LoA from that Steam post. The only problem was those armors added by X-skins.

Yes that is just what I need. Don't want to be nude constantly, only if I remove the armor, as common nude mods for most games (as real life, lol). Just the human body, the rest of the game should be vanilla.

I have been playing xp versions of the game on Windows 7, 8 and 10 without issue. If you do encounter a problem with windows 10 you can set the compatibility mode for windows xp.
Here is a link to do that make as minimal of a change as possible.

Well, this is going to seem like I'm promoting myself but ugh. I made a mod with new faces for farmgirl and one of the "shirts" at character creation is nude.

Hanging around town naked.

The robe model converts into a short dress. I can take that mesh out if you dislike it.

Huh, it might be nice if I provided a link to the mod..

This particular mod only has character skins, no armor or anything else.

Bare_elf, yes I know all of that, it is just that GOG version runs without any tweak.

Yes, that is just wht I want, the robe is a nice touch but both versions are making crashes on start new game, instant crashes. May I ask why are 2 versions for DS and LoA? X-skins worked in DS1 and after Ive patched LoA, still working (my only issue with it was the replaces in violet items).

Maybe if you make a version with just the skin replacement to farmgirl, would work. The less changes as possible. Wink

I made one version for folks who are only using ds1 and another version for people using ds/loa. The only real difference between the two is the textures used in character creation; some work only w/ LoA. Both of the mods have a nude option. You only need one version and place it into the resources folder. There can be only one! (Stupid Highlander reference *not* included with mod...) I'm not sure why the game is crashing, unless maybe you placed both mods into resources.

Vamrem wrote:

The mod is is only a replacement for the regular farmgirl skins and doesn't have any in-game armor. I have customized versions of the shirts and pants that are used in character creation, and those items are only seen with no armor equipped. I just felt the regular DS shirts were well, fugly. The robe/short dress is a model replacement, not a texture, so the appearance goes with all the regular DS robes. There are two other mesh replacements. If you don't want the mesh changes, I can take them out for you, not a problem.

So still pretty much vanilla w/only cosmetic changes for character creation and the way some of the armor fits, but not the way the armor textures look.

I'm running the win xp version of Legends of Aranna and it works fine for me. I have win 10. I do have the compatibility setting for win xp and run the game w/ the administrator option as well.

Man, this having to use the quote button to make a comment is getting old. Meh, I'm happy the site is still being maintained so I can't complain too much.

The steam and GOG versions will cause problem after problem, whereas the retail versions will not after one minor tweak for windows 10. So good luck with the GOG, hope you do not encounter other issues or problems.

In the defence of GOG I have to say that they don't do screw ups like steam does.
I have both DS1 and DS2 from GOG, I've only played a game with the GOG DS2 version and I have not encountered a problem so far, no matter what mod I've thrown at DS2 I can say that they all worked as they were intended to by the mod creator, thank GOG, I would assume that DS1 is the same.

lol, Moros. Yes, thank GOG. Laughing out loud

Vamren, I just wanted to make sure if the FG skins mod worked for you. One reason it would crash the game is if you still have X-skins in the resource folder. Both modify character skins so they are completely incompatible.

About GOG, what do you mean with problems? I had any till many towns. (The only was the drop changes from X-skins).

Yes, I've removed all mods, and tested only LoA, and then DS alone, separately, still crashing with both on "Start new game" button from the menu.

Huh, I'm not sure what the problem is then. You can't even choose a map? Maybe somebody else could download the mod and do a check. I had no takers when I blogged about the mods being done so I'm the only one who has play tested them.

Kathy the mod works just fine for me, as you said you must remove x-skins. I tested both versions DS1 and DSLoA no issues at all. I still think the problems are being caused by GOG

Seems that it fixes some things on the game, even when not playing LoA campaign.

I think Vamrem's problems are caused by the LOA download link in the quoted post, I would uninstall the entire DS1 and LOA folder and start over again without any mods active, don't use those files in the link either. Make sure both DS1 and LOA games are working and then throw a mod at it and see what happens, one mod only as 2 of them could potentially overwrite the same files thereby causing a crash or whatever.

That's just my opinion of course, not that anyone takes any bloody notice of what I have to say around here. Angry

I'm wondering if the game is crashing because of the changes I made to the gas files in order to incorporate my custom textures. I'm curious about this so I'm going to check a few things out.

Moros wrote:

You are such a prawn. That's right I said it...prawn!! Tongue

I thought the problem with Vamren's game crashing might be due to the game looking for "stuff" in the skins gas files. In shirts and pants I included the line
* = include_common; as well as including the original face textures in faces. Mod is attached, use either exe to start the game, but if loa is used some of the textures when selecting shirts during character creation will look weird.

Another thing I thought was if Dungeon Siege was accessed by the Gog Galaxy program. If so, don't open gog galaxy and run the game directly. That might make a difference. My directory is like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Dragon Age Origins

Attachment:

Probably is the LoA from Steam, over GOG version... This is my entire Resources folder, for if anyone knows for what are most things, or see something weird.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
DevLogic.dsres (can remove)
DS LoA farmgirl skins.dsres <- Tested both (DS and LoA separately).
fairyfix.dsres (can remove)
ikkyo_mpsave_beta_6.dsres (crashes without it)
Logic.dsres (crashes without it)
Objects.dsres (crashes without it)
sf_ResolutionFix.dsres <- What is this? I feel no changes in resolution when removing.
Sound.dsres (can remove, but no in game sound, lol)
Terrain.dsres (crashes without it)
UberUI_LoA_v0.02.dsres (can remove)
Voices.dsres (can remove, but no voices, lol)
XPRes.dsres (can remove)
Yesterhaven.dsres (can remove)

I've tested the mod without all of those I can remove. Including the only other mod I have (Hd Textures).

ikkyo_mpsave_beta_6.dsres (crashes without it)

Logic.dsres
Objects.dsres
Sound.dsres
Terrain.dsres
Voices.dsres

The files I listed are the core resources needed for the game. Not sure why the ikkyo_mpsave is making the game crash if it is removed since it is a mod. Fairy fix works for the original DS and isn't needed for LoA. Not sure what the resolution fix is, maybe it allows for resolutions greater than 1112 x 768?

kathycf, thanks for the information.

I'm playing with a 2K monitor, apparently is 2K native since my screenshots are exactly the same as the monitor resolution and the game has no delay on startup. (Unlike in other games which has a delay to adjust resolution, and screenshots are smaller, like Sacred 1 for example), apparently GOG version came with this. Although, I can remove it and still running.

The "ikkyo_mpsave_beta_6.dsres" causes game crash on load a savegame, but can start a new game.

Another strange thing is that removing all the texture packs from Resources, the game still in HD! even a new game. Whut happened? Where the new textures are stored? lol

Hmmm, the only reason they could still be active is if you have installed the game into the Windows protected system folders, example the "Program Files" or the "Program Files (x86)" folders. ^That is the only way that I know of, if anyone knows differently please do tell.

As I've already said the easy thing to do is to uninstall DS1 and the LOA folder, do a reboot and check the "Roaming Folder" (link below) and make sure anything to do with Dungeon Siege is gone, if there are any remnants left delete them, install again but not in the "Program Files" or the "Program Files (x86)" folders.

https://www.pcworld.com/article/2690709/whats-in-the-hidden-windows-appdata-folder-and-how-to-find-it-if-you-need-it.html#:~:text=The%20quick%20and%20easy%20way,take%20you%20to%20AppData%20%3E%20Roaming.

Reinstalled DS alone, with nothing more else, and still crashing on load, lol.

Anyway, I've noticed that I never remove the armor to the character during the game, and also, I'm playing with a man to balance the group half men, half women, so it's ok. haha.

It is on C:/Games. Not protected folder, nothing on AppData also.

Curious, after reinstall, removing the mod, restores the original textures, so that problem solved. (Wasn't a problem I love those textures anyway, just a mystery).
