DS1's PartyUI

When I scoured through the code, and did some comparisons. It looks like the necessary code is still there for this to function. Would it be a matter of just getting the graphicUI overlay onto the DS2 toolbar or something more entailed?
Though this is probably beyond my expertise, I deal more with game mechanics, code and game balance. Graphics piss me off Wink

If nothing else, could make it possible for party members to take more than 3.5 steps away from each other.

Mod distribution ettiquette... ?

Here's a choice quote from the GPGarage:
http://garage.gaspowered.com/?q=node/2241

This is the part I find "interesting"...

biddle wrote:

...The only files that should appear in the Resources folder are:
Quote:
Logic.ds2res
Movies1.ds2res
Movies2.ds2res
Objects.ds2res
Sound1.ds2res
Sound2.ds2res
Terrain.ds2res
Voices.ds2res

Adding tank files by hand to that folder can easily throw off the data checks in the game and cause save games to be skipped.

...

[ Note: Siege Editor 2 automatically places the tank files it is asked to generate into the correct location for new tanked content (ie. your "My Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2 Mod\Mods" folder) and it gives these new tanks a ".ds2mod" extension. Prior to the release of the 'official' DS2 tools, modders were dropping their own .ds2res files in with the official DS2 retail resources. In the future, this will be considered 'bad form', it exploits a loophole in the resource verification code and just causes grief. Please make sure that all the files that you tinker with are in "My Games\Dungeon Siege 2 Mod". Leaving files in the DS2 install directory and the "My Games\Dungeon Siege 2" alone will always allow you to play the 'pure' version of DS2, regardless of what you do with the DS2TK ]

DS2DLL Support

FYI.
Brkopac asked about DS2DLL support on the GPGarage:
http://garage.gaspowered.com/?q=node/2242

And here's the response:

biddle wrote:
There is support for ds2dlls in the retail mod executable included inthe DS2TK.

ds2dlls need to be located in your 'mods' folder (...\My Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2 Mod\Mods).

Instead of automatically loading any and all ds2dlls in found the mods folder, you have to provide a comma separated list of the ds2dll names you want to load when you launch the executable:

DungeonSiegeMod.exe ds2dlls="sprocket,widget,hack" ...

In addition, 'ds2dl0s' (that's ell-zero-ess, not ell-oh-ess) are also supported and they should appear in a separate list:

Heros Siegelet returneth!

Okay then...I got the tools last night finally, and messed around with it a bit, and am fairly confident with what I can do. Anyway, since siege-mods is down and my suspicions about it are not fairly good, the "Heros" thread from there is vamos. So I'm starting a new one here. (I know you are probably thinking "Why not just add to the thread that's already on this site?", don't worry, I have my reasons).

Before saying anything, no, this siegelet is not being made to be in competition with Strider's siegelet to become the first siegelet for DS2. I do not care about having the first siegelet made, as long as I enjoy making it. (Besides, I had already planned this before Strider made the Santa's workshop thread anyway)

Character reference

Well I was talking with mcarp a while back and he mentioned how it was hard to find good character references. I just found a good site without looking Smile . http://free-textures.got3d.com/natural/free-character-references/index.html .

DSTK2 is finally out

It is about time. DSTK2

Wrye Notes: Open Modding (Cathedral vs. Parlor)

The following link is to an article written by someone in the Morrowind community, but it is a rather interesting essay that I thought would be appreciated here.
http://home.earthlink.net/~wrye_modder/Cathedral%20vs.%20Parlor.html

Obviously the Cathedral model is more community friendly, and I think I'll take another look at the Readme File Template with this in mind (recognizing that there may be Parlor modders out there too...).
