What I seen so far tells me that I am not going to let this thing contaminate my computer. Death to Seth!
@niceguy: Your resistance is futile!
You and your computer will be assimilated!
Actually, I believe that there might be an uber level... which could unlock abilities as you progress. There's also mention (elsewhere) of a humanity index, and this percentage / value will drive certain aspects of the game (skills available, NPC reactions...).
It also sounds like there's going to be skill point tabs (read the description for "Cybernetic Eyes: Improved Criticals") and possibly something that could be similar to DS2's Powers... (read the description for "Cybernetic Legs: Stationary Stance").
Edit:
BTW, I asked two modding Q's on the Sega forums:
http://boards2.sega.com/sega_board/viewtopic.php?t=77336
Probably, but not until modders have rebuilt it sufficently first.
if we can incorporate the new changes into the DS2 engine
- via a bit of reverse engineering expertise, maybe..
- it all sounds very promising..

..never mind the weather, just as long as we're together!
Well i hope GPG will 'natively' use the coming months to turn SS into a good game. Although the game concept doesn't seem to be inattractive i can see things that make me sceptical too, eg. a low game content for singleplayer while multiplayer mode is dominated by cheaters...
Indeed i can understand that point of view - actually i had it already for DS2. /
GPG released a small trainer of Space siege, i'm uploading it to the forge right now.
The more I visit the Sega Forums for Space Siege, the more hesitant I become about the game being a good RPG. Of course the majority of posts there are biased from people who like arcade style gaming the best.
It's well possible that many DS1/2 players will be disappointed...
When i read the SS related posts it seems to me people think SS would be some kind if 'Dungeon Siege in Space' - but according the announcements and interviews i don't think so.
It still will be a RPG but much different than eg. DS2 games (tiny map and cheats excluded).
I don't know what "Dungeon Siege in Space" really means. Obviously the engine features will mean that the basics (eg. character movement / combat and how conversations / quests work) will be very similar to DS2. Heavily modify the UI to a more spacey theme, and make the map environments non-leafy :P / more like the insides of a space ship. Make some minor changes (like renaming "mana" to something similar to "bio-mechanical energy" or "suit fuel", changing the enchanting system to modify the character's cyborgness or the robot pet's features...) and you're half-way there.
Hmm. I'm just now realizing that "fog" doesn't fit well into a space ship theme... I wonder how frustrum size will be limited without it (or if they'll ignore the issue, using dark shadows / smoke in the distance as an explanation for this engine necessity...). :?
Dungeon Siege in Space: Like DS1/2 just 5000 years advanced into the future where you have left the earth and must save the mankind in the universe now.
I just had the impression that many people think SS will be a futuristic version of Dungeon Siege - i have enough fantasy to imagine that but i guess SS will be a notably different RPG game.
By the way i'm not convinced by the DS engine. It's not totally bad but it's currently much too inefficent/expansive to make maps for it. Thus i hope they will care abot this matter, otherwise SS will just hold players for some weeks...
I read lot of expectation in this topic about modding Space Siege, but the few things that I could read about it does not let me think at all it will published as "mod friendly".
I'm interested by playing the game itself. It looks like a fun game to enjoy adventuring in.
But modding wise, with the current informations released about it, I really doubt that Space Siege will have any interest.
As for the people who talks about "modability VS cheating" there is no magic answer. If you wanna play online with random people without cheaters you have to play ONLINE ONLY game, such as MMO, Guild Wars, CLOSED Battle-NET and alike. AND STILL, even these game got cheaters with some server exploits used here and then.
But ANY game that have regular multiplayer support with the game running/hosted on players PC will always have cheaters, "modable" or not.
Also of course MMO are not "modable". So you can't have both security and "modability"
The only trade-off you can get is similar to what NWN has done with its dedicated server run by players, Allowing each player to host its own mini MMO of NWN running mods or not.
Of course the implementation is far from being perfect, if true MMO already have exploits, you can guess that such dedicated server are even worst but its already a bit better. Of course the bad part is that your character is only valid on a particular server, and still you have to trust the host who could cheat at ease.
Anyway I'm just bored by the MODS vs CHEATS comment. Once again if you wanna play more cheat-free game, go play ONLINE ONLY SERVER BASED game.
But as soon as game uses the casual peer to peer multiplayer, you will meet cheaters, so complaining about mods is only just fighting with modders, not cheaters who will be there mods or not.
Moddable or not, I don't think I will be buying Space Siege. The theme doesn't really seem attractive to me. I'm holding out for Dungeon Siege 3, assuming it won't be consolish and will rectify some of the oversights and/or shortcomings in DS2 (a good, non-linear, MP map, for example).

Has some new screenies (with hope for reasonably free camera angles) and some other new game information (including a nice background timeline of world history).
From the new site...
Game Info - Features - Online Multiplayer:
Sounds like PvP = no (fine with me), and I like the idea of a separate difficulty setting but this makes me wonder if they're still going to have Merc., Vet. and Elite...
News about the GPG interview has been posted on the Sega forums:
Is SS going to try and make you cry?

If they can get around the issues of NPC's that are just robots, and learn to develop their personalities so we can relate to and share their emotional mishaps.....maybe.
I see lighting effects, shadows and a fairly low camera angle..
I hope all these effects are not too Vista/DX10 dependant, and that
the game isn't just going to be another vehicle reserved for high-enders..
The site has been updated with new information on the crew and upgrades now.

Interesting details on the armory. Lots of guns, some single use grenades / traps, and a few drones (which are probably similar in concept to summons...). It also looks like the cybernetic upgrades not only give special bonuses, but they unlock branches in the skill tree too. This looks to be a nice character development link between RPG elements and combat abilities.
One brain replacement please... by the way, what's the warranty like on one of these things? Can I get my money (and original brain) back if I don't like the "upgrade"? :P ^^
The new brain is already programmed to like itself as an upgrade. And has no memory of any financial details.
And don't get me started about Irish/Polish/Canuck brains being more expensive because they've never been used.
They're actually more expensive because of their superior quality.
:P ^^
Everyone will be assimilated.
Some new screenies have been released, and I have to say that I find it hard to believe that the graphics shown are actually a part of the Siege engine. What an upgrade! A huge improvement in body shape (more poly's for sure), plus the screenies are zoomed in quite close with at least one looking up!

We're starting to get a feel of the game's mood with these pics too. Very promising. I just hope the gameplay keeps up with the graphics being shown...
I just spotted a few. Enjoy. If you just want to look at the gameplay, then check out the third and fourth links.

More (longer) gameplay clips... during a Dell presentation.

Direct feed (full screen) gameplay (3 minutes).

A shorter gameplay clip (1 minute) with better sound quality.

Don't have speakers hooked up to this computer so can't hear Chris' dialogue. Looks interesting though.
SS may be getting a console version:

I just noticed another official SS site update including details on the ship...
http://www.spacesiege.com/spacesiege/index.php
I wonder if it's going to be a "go anywhere anytime" environment, or if there's going to be a linear path.
Nice to see an update, but wasn't it mentioned once in an interview that there would be more than one vessel only?
By the way, they did forget to mention the width of the ship!
Will Space Siege gonna be a 2D Arcade game now!? :-o
