Zonematch Gone Awry?

Whats going on?

Zonematch won't let me online.... I've never had this problem before.

Earlier, it would let me on, but it would wait untl after the 15 second period of attempting to connect to actually connect. But now, the news doesnt even show up!

<snip>
is something wrong with my computer? or is zonematch down?

have you enabled it via your firewall..??

Lord Claw, I think you might get more help if you had started this thread in technical support, not general discussion. Another forum member has been having issues with connecting to games, did you check out any of the responses in that thread to see if they pertain to you?

I remember a while back seeing threads at SN about tech problems with Zonematch...even if you are not a member there it might not hurt to see if anyone had a similiar problem to you. I think Zonematch gets kind of glitchy at times.

You also might try the other Multiplayer options--connecting to another game or having a friend connect to you by IP address. Hope you get it straightened out.

*edit*
here is the link to 2 of the threads at SN:

Move it then, but i need to work this out.

ive been fiddling around with my NVIDIA firewall for about an hour.. i cant quite figure out how to tell it what programs to accept and what programs to deny.
is ANYONE familiar with NVIDIA software?
i mainly want to know if anyone else is having trouble connecting to ZM lately, it seems to me that something might be wrong with that in itself.

the only problems ive ever had with ZM is that when i try to connect, it waits until after the 15 seconds it gives me to connect, i have to wait for that to finish before it will do anything.
i dont know why this is happening, my firewall has never had an issue concerning games before.

Don't use the nvidia firewall... it gives more problems than that it helps..

Had the same problem just update the software on the site. Worked for me when DS was still hot with modders.

you mean dungeon siege website?

as in an update patch? okay, ill try that. thanks

FB, what firewall should i get then?

zone alarm or maybe tiny firewall which is a 30 day trial

i turned my firewall off and it still wont connect to ZM...
what else could it be? my friend, Lorethel, can't get into the ZM server either. is Zonematch down or something?

 The quickest way anyone could have offered any help is a very quick try to see if zm was working for them. If it was not, well I guess it is a pretty good assumption that zm is just down at the moment. I tried to connect and it did not connect. This tells me you will just need to try again later as zm is just offline for right now. Back in the busier days of DS zm was down fairly frequently, it was not uncommon for it to be down for several hours, even more then 24 hours several times. Not being able to connect to zm usually does mean that zm is down. Usually the simple answers are the correct ones. I would not call this a technical issue.

Okay then, this topic has been concluded.

Great, I am glad you received the help you needed. Obviously, I spent time going to find topics for you to look at pertaining to the same subject so I wasn't just berating you for posting in the wrong thread....And it did occur to me to go to Zonematch as well, but then that is why I wrote Zonematch was glitchy. Meaning they do have a tendency to go down.

It may be more than a glitch. I spotted this link over in the DSH forums, and it seems to be implying that the Zone is gone completely. DS isn't mentioned specifically, but if the whole network is turned off that would explain things...

Hmm, it is very vague:

Quote:
First, some tearful farewells: as of June 19, 2006, we have retired our CD-ROM matchmaking service, along with the original versions of several classic card and board games: Classic Backgammon, Bridge, Classic Checkers, Chess, Cribbage, Euchre, Go, Classic Hearts, Reversi, and Spades. We are sad to see them go! These games are like old friends: they gave us our start, and helped us grow from an innovative little entertainment site to a truly stellar online gaming experience. But over the years, it’s become more and more difficult to maintain the aging hardware and software that supports them. We held out absolutely as long as we could, but it was finally time to make that decision.

And now that it’s made, we’re actually very happy about it. Why? Because now our time, energy, and resources can be turned to creating newer, better versions of your (and our) favorite games! The same teams who brought you updated, feature-filled, and gorgeous new Hearts, Dominoes, Checkers, and Texas Hold’Em games are currently hard at work on Spades, Chess, and more.

I put the links to SN topics re:Zonematch in my first post because it seems like they have been somewhat unreliable for a while now. I guess if people like to play DS1 multiplayer, they will have to connect directly through the internet via host IP address.

why would they turn off the ZM servber? from what ive seen from playing all three game versions, it looks like DS1 and LOA combined has more players than DS2...

this REALLY sucks.

im tempted to buy a couple server PC's and host ZM myself.

lol if i had the right experience i probably would, too...

WHOA WHOA WHOA

as of Jun 19?

its august 13th...

maybe they had to shut down the ZM for DS game to be able to shut everything else down?

im really finding it hard to believe that ZM is gone forever, is it possible they might bring it back?

EDIT:

Sharkull and Kathy, it seems to me that it might not be what we think about this.

They are naming only virtual board games, i didnt see ANYTHING concerning DS&LOA. its very possible your right and im wrong, but it could also be the other way around.

im going to stick with my assumption that they had to shut down ZM to maybe update some software or remove other games from its service. Hell, ZM might be running even better after this is all over!

P.S. this might have started a few rumors that could really get alot of people pretty pissed off. watch out when you post about it on other forums, might start somebody off on a rant.

It does seems kinda odd that it would be 50 days after the zone was shut down before the DS ZM stopped. I do not think they are the same "zone". The links appear to go to some MS gaming site for old games and games you dont necessarily have to buy.

Sharkull's picture

Yeah, I know. That's why I never said ZM was gone... I don't know the relationship between Zone and DS's ZM, so I posted the link in case it might be applicable.

The only other place I've posted this is the GPGarage, where hopefully someone from GPG can set things straight.

Right, it may not have anything to do at all with Dungeon Siege Zonematch...I did notice they were talking about card games alot. This is the only place I posted in or read about this specific issue, so no worries there.

Hopefully, things will get straightened out soon.

Well I just checked again and ZM seems to be up and running fine now. Laughing out loud
